I got to thinking how Duke and Freckles would react if they were separated for a day or two. It might be an interesting experiment to observe how each would react to the others absence.
For whatever reason, has anyone with more than one dog ever separated them? |

My dogs, (Grace & Reese) are doggie soul mates. They are by each other's side at all times. If one has to go to the Vet, the other will howl until they're together. If one dog is in another room, the other dog feels its absence and will look for him/her. If something is heard or seen in the backyard by one dog, he/she will go get the other to go out and investigate.
My Hubby and I discussed what would happen if they were ever separated permanently. I'm sure that the dog left behind would experience severe depression.
People could learn from their love and devotion to one another. |

My dogs hate being seperated, Mitzy is fine she will just go spread herself along the sofa and will happily fall asleep.
Ice will not settle if she is taken away from mitzy, I took Ice to my mums the other day and she cried and cried till we got back home and she was all over the others like she had never seen them for weeks.
I think it depends on the dogs, How close they are and they play and sleep together.
You may find that either dog could get very depressed which will include going off food and water.

Zoey doesn't care if she is separated from Brie. She would rather be an only child. But Brie gets anxious if she is away from Zoey for very long.
My Dad often asks me to bring one of their dogs home for a day or so to separate them. He thinks they're too attached to each other. But now that my Mom has retired, the male pom has attached himself to her and their female begs to come home with me every time I go over there! |

| Reese was a 4 mo. old pedigree and Grace was a 5 wk. rescue from the Barrio. Reese fell in love and Grace looked to him for guidance. He was her Mom and her Dad. She was born with a pit attitude. He was born with a regal attitude of a show dog. Together they balance each other and come to depend on one another. It is such an incredible relationship. I have had many dogs, but I have never seen such "love" between two dogs. |

| Ranger can be okay if seperated from Snickers, especially in our backyard since he was here first. Snickers, on the other hand, FREAKS OUT! They both freak out if they are seperated and feel that the other one is getting something better. Like I used to take them on bike rides, but I can only take them one at a time, and whoever is left in the backyard, knowing the other one is on a walk, howls. And when I take them into work with me for baths, Ranger is ok if I take Snickers and leave him in the back, but if I take Ranger and leave Snickers you can hear her howling and you can pick her out from all of the other dogs in the boarding room, too. But I think it just depends on personality. Snickers is a very affectionate dog, who wants to be by your side at all times. Ranger would rather be by your side, but if he can't, he's fine with that too. You would think that would affect their training, but it doesn't Ranger still does better than Snickers with the come command, I guess because Snickers is always looking for something better than a plain ol' human, something like a cat, lol. |

| Natalie and Sebastian have been separated for a day or two when I've gone camping and taken Natalie along but Sebastian stayed home. I did'nt notice any unusual behavior between them upon them reunited though. |

I remember a case a few years back where two dogs that had been together for years, escaped from their house, one of them was hit by a car and shortly after the owner brought the dog into the hospital he died from the injuries. The other dog witnessed it all.....
I kept up with the owner, we'd talked a lot while she was at the hospital and a few days later I called her at home to see how she was doing and see if the other dog was okay, he was very quiet on the night he came in with his injured buddy, nothing unusual in that....she said he had hardly eaten, seemed very depressed, I told her to give it some time as Im sure the actual event must have had a traumatic impact on him and I said I would call back in a few days.
Next time I called, she was really worried, the surviving dog had no interest in playing, was still barely eating and there were concerns now about his health deteriorating due to the lack of food.....gradually he started to 'pick up' again but I talked to her about 6 months after and she had got another dog in the hope that it would help, it did a little I think as that was when he started to play again but she said he still wasnt the same dog.
Thats the most severe Ive known when dogs have been seperated but I think that had a lot to do with the accident.
My own dogs, my whippet and chihauha were close and at times when one of them was not there the other wouldnt play much and would seem very 'mopey'. The dog I have now, I think needs another dog in the house, I think it would help with her insecurities, but unfortunately Im not in a position to have 2 dogs so she has to make do with having me for company. |

This is Jake and Wylie, Jake could care less, Wylie on the other hand adores Jake and even when I take Jake to the vet I have to take Wylie along for the ride. When Wylie was in the hospital last year for 3 days, I dont think Jake even noticed or if he did it was Yippeee, I have mom and dad all to myself I think about this more as they get older and Jake is the older dog and I think what will Wylie do with Jake gone. Because she was so close with Midas my cat who we lost this summer she went into a deep funk for well over a month. |

| My first dogs loves her alone time. The other two kind of need to be around each other. I think it has alot to do with the one having experience being an only child and the others all they have known is being with each other. |

I take Nala to agility by herself. Bonnie doesn't like that I am leaving her behind, but once I go the kids say she is just fine until we get back. Nala gets upset if I take Bonnie somewhere without her, but I think she is bothered more by not getting to go wherever we are going than the fact that she is apart from Bonnie. |
