the state's, relatively official, Sunday paper features a pet story every week. Two weeks ago my first Siamese Rescue foster, who lives in southern NH, was featured. It takes approx. 9 months to get a pet in the article due to volume. I submitted Dixie's story 2 weeks ago. And they ran it this week!!!!
Her name is Dixie Chick. She is about 9 years old and I adopted her last
August.
Her story is very familar to many cats. Her owner passed away
leaving 2 cats behind in an apartment in the city. A neighbor cared for them
until the landlord said "get them out of here or I put them on the street".
Not a nice thing considering the 2nd cat was an older blind Siamese.
I foster for Siamese Rescue, out of Virginia, and I offered to
foster these 2. Dixie, a nonmeezer, was taken in as companion to the older blind
siamese. Their story pulled at my heart and I wanted to help them, love
them, offer them hope.
So out of Mass. they went into my home in NH. Dixie, a black/white
chubby girl immediately oozed herself under the sofa in my foster room.
MaiTai (the blind Siamese) hid behind the sofa. I was okay with that
considering they'd spent many months alone in an apartment with only a person coming
in to give them food and scoop their litterbox. But I knew I had some work cut
out for me.
I left the girls alone for a few hours and went back into the room
armed with a Zoom Groom (you really need one of these). I reached under
the sofa and started to Zoom Groom the section of Dixie Chick that was
hanging out from under the sofa. That did it...out she came purring and
headbutting. She never went back under the sofa.
MaiTai took a little bit longer as being blind she had to get the
"lay of the land" so to speak.
Once their isolation period was over and they could be allowed time
out of the foster room Dixie took over the house. She hung out with my old
dog, bossed my own cats around and blended right in with the craziness
of this house. She knew she was home as did I, but to convince my husband
Dixie needed to permanently become one of us.
We adopted Dixie August '05 and she is now a "Daddy's girl". The
minute she oozed her bulk out from under that sofa she looked around and
thought "hmmm not bad. Good food, soft cushions, quiet household, cats I can boss
around, I'm staying".
What became of MaiTai you ask? She stayed with us for 9 months and
taught me a lot about animals living with physical disabilities. A
wonderfully sweet woman in the state of Maine adopted MaiTai and life is wonderful
for that cat. She is, once again, an adored pet.
Dixie and MaiTai's former person is smiling down at her 2 cats. She
was unable to care for them for the remainder of their lives, but due
to Siamese Rescue Dixie and MaiTai lives are once again filled with love.

You're famous too, Mary_NH. LOL on the Zoom Groom story. I love that brush. I posted a bunch of pics a few years ago promoting how wonderful Zoom Groom was and for some reason Handsome's (R.I.P.) huge fur ball looked blue. Shocked

We have famous people and kitties on our board! Surprised Handsome got me hooked on the Zoom Groom. Wasn't he a Russian Blue? I remember his fur pics and other gorgeous pics. A couple of days ago I groomed Rene with the Zoom Groom even though her fur doesn't shed very much. When I was done, she put her front paws on my legs and demanded that I groom her some more. That Zoom Groom truly works magic! All I have to do is whip out that Zoom Groom and Rene and Monty boy will come running. Mr. Green
