any ideas on potty training............UGH!!!

My male Pom is just over a year old and is peeing in the house all the time. We are at our wits end. I am tired of cleaning it every time I turn around. We got him when he was 3 months old and he never did do very well with the potty training. He is just SO stubborn, he won't let us know that he needs to go out. We take him out every couple of hours and our other Pom does fine with the potty training part of it. She doesn't have any problems. We are doing the exact same thing with them both. He usually goes out before she does and then gets praised continually. Any other ideas how I can keep my house from being ruined?? I really don't want to resort to the belly bands, but I am thinking that is where my hubby is leaning. There is nothing wrong with my Pom medically, just mentally. LOL. I am just thinking that the bands would rub on his tender belly skin and irritate it, but I don't know what else to do!! Please help!

I have a couple of questions, first of all is he neutered? If not then that will most likely be why hes doing it. Also, is he by any chance from a pet store or puppy mill? They are often difficult to house train as they have generally spent the first few months of their lives in small caged areas were they had to use their sleeping area as a bathroom, its tough to break the habit but it can be done. Have you tried crate training?

If the scent of the urine is in the carpets/furniture you need to get rid of it, I like Natures Miracle, most pet stores have it.

Yes, he is neutered. Didn't want to chance anything where as they were half brother and sister. As for a petshop or puppymill, some people may say yes, others may say no. They were from a breeder who does this who loves the breed. My first one I bought from the guy and didn't realize he didn't do all the testing that they needed. I did keep in touch just because I would want updated pics of my babies if I had any so I thought he would too. Anyway, he had the boy, who was 3 months old, and no one wanted him because he wasn't AKC. He was something different. He was in his puppy uglies and no one would take him so he gave him to us. He doesn't mess in his crate at all, but once he is taken outside and he does potty outside.......many times.......he will still come into the house and do it again. I don't understand it where as he is fixed. I had two male dogs growing up who were not fixed and they never messed in the house. Guess he is just stubborn. He will look you in the face and lift his leg. UGH!! I tell him stearnly NO and take him outside and praise him again if he goes out there. He knows what he is doing because he will put his tail between his legs when he knows he is going to get into trouble and outside, he will potty and come up to you and wag his tail like.....hey, I did something good. He always gets praised when he is outside.

I just hope he will settle down and learn something soon. He doesn't even want to do sit. He knows it if he wants to do it. I have just never had such a stubborn dog in all my life. His half sister is so smart, I wish he would learn part of what she knows!!

Sounds like you guys are trying all the right things. I have a 3yo pom that I havent been able to fully housebreak either. But one thing that is important is to get the smell out of the carpet. It goes into the padding and is very hard to fully get rid of but its not impossible. Maybe liter training would be a option for your dog I am looking into it for mine. She will spend hours outside and come in and go on the floor. So I am hoping we can get her to only use the liter box inside. Not my ideal solution but it wont ruin my flooring. If they seem to he$$ bent to go in the house. Everyone wins a little with that solution.
