I have always owned dogs until this past summer. I started seeing these young cats in the area and started feeding two of them and ended up falling in love with them and them with me. Well I just brought them in 3 weeks ago out of the cold.

One, is a definite female and going through heat right now. Now I plan to call the vet ASAP to get her sprayed. But the other cat i am not sure what gender it is. It keeps biting the other's neck but I tried looking for balls on the cat but didnt see any and it wont let me have a real good look.

Is there a better way of seeing what the gender of this 2nd cat is? Anyone have any advice for a new owner of a cat. I need all the help I can get.

Have your little girl spayed ASAP!! Her brother is trying to get frisky with her! If you look closely at their back ends, your little girl will have her 2 holes quite close together, the males' are further apart. Here is a link with pictures.

Keep them apart until you can have either him or her fixed or you will end up with babies from a brother/sister. He's grabbing her by the neck to try and mount her to do the deed.

Congrats on your new kitties and I agree with ACO to keep them apart and to neuter them ASAP. Have your vet neuter and or spay them right away or look for the feral cat focus or the SPCA or other low cost neutering and spaying programs in your area. They usually have programs all year round for spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and testing for feline AIDS and Leukemia.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Now the cat I didn't know had a gender appears from the pics and everything lately to be a female also. She is crying all night, lifting up her tale like the other was doing.

I signed up at friends of animals to get their discounted certificates for sprays for females so now I am only waiting for that to get them both fixed.

I appreciate all the help and fast responses.
