Changing my floors- will cats get mad?

Hi,
I have carpet in 3 rooms in my house and linoleum on the other 1/2. My questions is-- I have 2 girl cats and 1 male cat (who is a diabetic)
I wonder if me changing the carpeted rooms to wood floors will mess my cats up- as a territopry change? I don't want them to pee all over b/c they are mad.....any of you ever do this?
Also- for 3-4 days (if that?) I have to stay w/ my Mom (a few houses down) b/c of the smell of the hardwood floors and the gloss. House needs to be well vented with air- so we have to go to my Moms.
Will this territory change affect my cats in a bad way?????
Any info you have would be great!!

I removed all my carpet a year and half ago and put in wood floors. The cats didn't even really seem to notice. They enjoyed playing in the rolled up piles of carpet during the renovations though! You should try to save some pieces to carpeting to use as scratching posts and pads too.

Moving to your mom's house will probably pose the biggest problem for them, I would think. As long as you're there with them and they have enough space though, they should be fine for a few days. My animals have always adjusted well to travel.

Thanks! And that's a good idea about saving some carpet for them...
Hopefully they will adjust well for the sake of 2-3 days.
I am going to try to hold out for as long as I can before having to transfer them to my mom's....we'll see what happens!
I just feel bad that they have to move to my mom's and then come home to a "new" floor/house look...ya know?

we did the same thing but only a floor/year cause we did the work ourselves...I never had a problem with my cats. We've sanded/refinished too and they were okay but had to keep them off the floor till it was thoroughly dry - that was a chore

Hey- ya never know.
I just have always heard of cats flipping out being moved from 1 spot to another...peeing and marking territory!?
I have never had to move them from their home, so I don't know what I am in for. Maybe it will be nothing- We'll fing out next week though- lol

We had to keep Pumpkin + Monty with my IL's for 1 week when we moved from CT to NY. Monty did well but Pumpkin held a grudge for a long time, luckily no peeing out of litter boxes or territory marking. If anything, they bonded together even closer than before. Hopefully, your babies will adjust well. Good luck with everything and how exciting to be getting new flooring!

My 1 cat has such an attitude. I am afraid she will be holding a grudge. She doesn't like to be disturbed...she is the "mommy" and the queen of the house. LOL Smile

I can't wait to get new wood floors! We ripped the carpeting up last night. All I can say is YUK!!! Shocked

My 1 cat has Diabetes and every now and then he would pick a corner and pee. The rugs were destroyed and no matter how good we cleaned it or hired a pro...it still stunk. We scrubed the boards good and I think the hardwood willbe great b/c I think Cats don't like to pee (or mine have not anyway) on hard surfaces.
So...we needed to get new flooring!! Exclamation

This is probably just my dysfunctional cat Copper, but he peed on my new wood laminate floor before I even put in the mouldings. I think he peed on the underlayment too while I stepped out to cut a piece of the laminate. He also peed on the new dryer. But hopefully that's just him and you won't have any problems. Your the best
