Are rose petals bad for kitties to eat?

Hubby bought me roses the other day and it's all I can do to keep Booger away from them! She's not playing with them but rather wants to eat the petals!

I've tried searching the web but can't find any place that says roses are bad for kitties but I just want to be sure. Does anyone know if they are possibly bad for them?

It's just amased me how quickly and suddenly she's become addicted to eating roses

Roses are edible for humans, so I imagine they are probably not toxic to cats.

Well onions are ok for humans too but are poison for kitties. So we can't judge toxic by human standards.

What's crazy is that she is absolutely CRAZY about getting to them. I had to put them in the fridge to keep her away from them and even then, she was sniffing the air trying to find them. Booger is a rose whore! LOL

The only thing that I found was Christmas Roses are poisonous but miniture roses are not. Glad to see that she picked a flower that wasn't going to hurt her.

Yeah Pomlover, I knew there was a long list but I had never heard about roses being on it. I just wanted to make sure because I know Booger ate at lease 2 or 3 petals. And she ate them with a vengence! She absolutely loves them

halaroo, I knew that there is a long list of foods and common house plants that are fine for humans yet poison to kitties but never heard of rose petals being one of them. That's why I was asking.

Yeah, when I first found out just how many human foods were harmful to kitties, I was amazed. I never let Booger eat leftovers or chomp on leavings while I'm cooking cuz you just never know.

My cats have gone nuts for baby's breath but not the roses themselves. That's kinda funny!

coppersmom, I can see why a kitty would enjoy playing with babys breath with it's lean stalks and little white blooms but Booger is literally going nuts over the roses. She definitely doesn't want to play with them but wants to eat them....well, not just eat them but DEVOUR them. She Eats them with a vengence!!!

My cat, who adopted me after being a stray for a year, loves to eat my roses She is just fine. She doesn't do near the harm to my roses that the deer do tho...they LOVE roses!!

I had to keep moving my rose around and Booger would still do all she cold to get to it. She'd snatch a petal and run off with it with me in fast chase. Hubby was laughing his butt off watching us. I'm sure I'll get roses more often now that hubby found his new home entertainment factor in it. LOL
