Question We recently bought a 10 week old Yorkie and decided to litter train him as well as crate train him. The first weekend we put him in a play pen with his crate and litter box. He made waste in the pen but not in the box. We have since put accidents into the box but the only thing Leo wants to do in the litter box is sleep. Help!!! I am a first time dog owner and he only goes potty everywhere but his litter box.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Stacey

Do you have pup pads down or papers? If so, try scooting them over little by little to the litter box. Put one of his used papers in the box too. It does take time. Crate training is not good for such small dogs unless you will be there to let him come out every couple hours. Yorkies just can't hold it that long, being they are tiny.

I use puppy pads in my litter box for my maltipoo. We started the training the very first day we brought her home. I tried the litter but she only played in it. A few times she did try and lay down in it, we would just pick her up. It's just like training them to go outside. Everytime you see them wanted to pee or poop. put them in the box. Puppy pads work the best. I put the box in the middle of my living room floor so I could watch her and learn her behavior then slowing start moving the box inch by inch to the final spot you want. I keep an extra litter box in my Blazer for long trips and when visiting, just clean up the mess before heading back on the road. She stayed with my mom while we were on vacation and I put her in the litterbox when we arrived and told her potty and she never had an accident while we were gone. GOOD LUCK
