That is sad but in all honesty the owner shouldn't have let him run loose (not that the police had the right to shoot him).

I also find it quite "convenient" that when the owner went in their was no report on it but as soon as she went in with her husband (who was a police officer) they confessed right away Confused .

I have Pit Bulls you know and I have to say if I wanted the dogs to get shot I'd let them run loose... Rotts and Pits are some of the most feared dogs and sooo many people mistake nice play behavior for dangerous behavior...anyway... Point is...the woman should have known better than to let her rott run loose... Best way to end up on the front page for negative press ever! And she did it too...what was that picture??? No owner of a dangerous breed would pose like that for their picture if they were trying to stop the stereotypes etc... I work sooo hard to keep my dogs off people's minds this kind of stuff REALLY bothers me... No the police didn't have a right to shoot the dog if he/she wasn't doing anything but who knows what they thought? You never know.

I agree. I understand her wanting to let her dog run free. So take it to a dog park or in her own fenced back yard! Not where the public is at large.

She should have known better. Even though the dog may have been harmless, how is others to know? I know Smokey is feared by many people and they have no reason to fear him. So I try my damdess to keep him in safe distance of people who don't like his breed, ect....just common scence.

I live in Tampa which is right across the water from St Pete. That was all over the news. We hear more about Rotties here than Pits. Thanks to people like her the "dangerous" breed will always be.
