Moving Littler Box

Hi,

Just want advice on moving my Henry's litterbox.

He currently uses his box in a room that will eventually become a nursery, I am due in three months. Needless to say, I have to move it.

My plan is to move it to a room right down the hall. This is what my plan was, but I am open to suggestions.

For now I'll keep his box in the nursery, but put another one in the room down the hall. I'll keep showing him the box in the new room and then one day will remove his original box, hoping he will jsut use the one in the next room. Do you think this will work? Henry is pretty adaptable and we have never had a problem with him doing his business outside his box.

I think your plan should work. That's what I did when I moved my kitties box and he did just fine. Cats are naturally fastidious when it comes to "disposal" so your kitty should adapt to the change pretty well. Good Luck. Very Happy

Congrats on your pregnancy and the decision to keep Henry. Lots of peple will give up family pets due to new people additions. Your kitty should have no problems with using the litter box at another location. I think you should move the original litter box down the hall since Henry is used to the old litter box. Leave a new litter box in the nursery if you want. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to purchase a new box. I move the food and water on my 4 cats all the time- I have a busy little 19 month old toddler who used to grab their food and water and everything else. He'll still grab if he learns how to climb on chairs and onto the countertop where their food and water is held now.

I hope your baby won't be allergic to cat fur. Mine was slightly allergic. He used to break out in hives. We just keep his room clear of cats and that helped quite a bit.

Henry is five and I adopted him this past November. Unfortunately I don't know how to post a pic.

I forgot to mention to wear gloves and a mask when you move the cat litter box. I'm sure you already know that. There's very little risk of getting toxoplasmosis assuming Henry is an indoors only cat.

Unless he's had litter box issues in the past, I wouldn't bother with the second box. Cats are smart, and he knows his way around your house well enough to find the new location. Just show it to him right away. Heck, if he's like my cat he'll be right there watching you move it!

Your plan sounds fine but I agree with Footsie. I think you can probably just show him where the litter box is in its new location without bothering with a second box.

I'm new here. But we moved our cats (eviecat) litter tray. All we did was put her in the new one when we moved it. There was no problems and she seemed to use ut straight away.

I've never had a problem moving a litter box. I did the same thing as TSD - just showed them where it was and they used it without fail.
