Why is the water blue in those little containers that they ship betta fish in? What exactly is this? Something just to make the containers fancier so that they stand out and people want to buy them...or is it something else? Its not food coloring is it?

I've always heard the blue stuff is like anesthesia so the fish are calm and sedated for their trip to the lfs.

Most ich medications contain methylene blue or malachite green which are both dyes (I used them all the time in my microbiology class).
