4 out of 5 cats have bloody diarrhea for four months...

Three of my cats are FeLV positive while one isn't (he stays separate from them with one other cat). All of my cats are otherwise healthy. They do not vomit, they have great appetites, and are all very active, even the FeLV positive ones. The color of the stool in all cases is yellowish, it has a strong odor, the color of the blood is bright red, and there is always only a moderate amount of blood. I keep taking them to the vet and he keeps treating them with antibiotics, after which the diarrhea improves, but it always comes back. He has also treated them for worms, and has now put them on a sensitive stomach diet.

I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars treating my cats. Even though I am quite poor, that doesn't bother me. I just want my cats to be healthy again. I am at a total loss right now. I just don't know what to do anymore. If you can help me with any information, it will truly be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums! Sorry for taking so long to reply.

I would definitely seek a second opinion, if you haven't already. This vet obviously doesn't quite understand the problem if he keeps prescribing antibiotics, even though he sees they are not truly helping.

I agree with Halaroo: Try a different vet if you haven't already done so.

I had a cat who also had diarrhea with occasional blood in it. He turned out to have a kidney problem and had to be put to sleep. But keep in mind that this was an elderly cat who had been a stray for an unknown period of time (The vet said his kidney problems came from him not eating and drinking proparly while being homeless), so it might be something completly different that is wrong with your cats. I remember Lynnhaz's Max had bloody diarrhea for the longest time and has seen several specialists. Different types of antibiotic was prescribed. I remember her talking about boiled chicken and potatoes/rice to bulk up the stool. Please seek 2nd and/or 3rd opinions from different vets.

do they ever strain to go. I'm thinking IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). google it (feline IBS) and see if it sounds familiar. Would be a place to start
