HAVE I BEEN RUDE OR IS MY NEW NEIGHBOR KIND OF A JERK?

I'm wondering if I need to change my dog walking pattern. Let me explain.

Each day for three years I take a noon break from my office and come home to walk Carlo, our German Shephard so he can 'pee'. We live on a cul de sac and I've found that I have quick success if I walk toward the cul de sac instead of the opposite direction toward traffic and distractions. Carlo is goreous, well-behaved always, and he only pees on this outing.

My husband takes him for two other lengthy walks each day to do his serious business.

But a new neighbor stopped my husband and from his car shouted insults and venom about 'your ... wife lets that dog crap all over my lawn and ... you should know better.... you're a doctor.... and ... and' (Just ugly stuff; to the embarrasment; my husband says; of his wife who was also in the car)

This neighbor's rant tells me that he's apparently had conversation with someone else on the street (a very private street) and knows more about us than I thought anybody cared about.

So now I'm wondering, is my behavior of walking the dog to pee near anyone's sidewalk or near their drive or on a tree next to the street NOT something I should do at all? OR do I simply avoid this one person's house( of course).

I'm not interested in offending anyone. Our dog won't pee on our own lawn. Or at least we're unable to train him to do so.

How much change must I make?

I would be offended if my neighbor allowed his/her dog to pee or defecate on my lawn or in my walking area in front of my home.
Also when a neighbors dog does relieve itself in front of my home it aggravates my dogs to the point that I must take them out of the fenced area to go remark that spot.
But I would not go shouting profanities at them about it. I would just ask that they walk on the other side of the road to lessen the impact on our home. (no one lives across the street)

But I think that guy is being a jerk about it.

Well if the person has made comments before and asked you not to and you continued to do so i could see them getting a bit perturbed by the onset. But if its something that has never been an issue before, i belive they were just being jerks.
however. I would definately change your walking pattern if possible.

If there is a park or field near by that might be a good spot to visit and be sure to always clean up after your pet. They make some neat little handy sacs that clip onto your leash and have baggies that you can pick up their waste and dispose of in a trash can or other appropriate area. Also they have pocket sized sprays to spray the urine area as well.

I live in the country so I don't usually come across this issue often. But I do get rather upset when other dogs venture into my yard repeatedly and deficate or pee on my yard plants. My own dogs do not do this and it causes issues at my house as well. You can train your dog to go to the restroom in your own yard. They do make "pee posts" that you can place in a specific area of your yard, They have a pharamone on them that encourages the dog to urinate on them only.

Another thing I thought of was, that if a strange dog is leaving his stuff in your yard he may also be leaving illness or disease.

I had a house in an upscale neighborhood with a neighbor that insisted on letting her poofed up little dog pee on my mail box post!!!

I kept my mouth shut for a few months -- then I would glare at her from my front window -- that went on for a few weeks but she still didn't get the hint!!!

Then I put a chemlawn sign right next to the mail box --- that still didn't work!!!! Finally - I started timing my trips to get the mail. I finally got the courage to ask her why she let her dog pee on my mailbox -- her answer was typical -- just a bunch of backstroking muttering!! I finally asked to to please find another mailbox because my dog was being bothered by the scent (this was a big lie - but it seemed to work.) .

She finally found another place for her poofed up pup to pee!!!!

Case closed.

Oh, we moved from that house to another nice neighborhood --- and had to deal with another wacko that let her dog pee everywhere!!! But, that's another story!!

Moral of the story --- keep the pee and poop on your own property!!

I would find a park area or something, Even if you take your dog out in the car to find a park. Avoid BIG conflicts in the neighbourhood, cant say I'd be to happy about that either. There was no need for him to be abusive and swear though..He could of come to you in a better manner if he had a problem, and adressed it in a mature manner..

You might have to try train him to Pee pee in your back yard.. Laughing

He has to go sometime lol. Wink

I also live in a kind-of cul-de-sac, and have a male dog who won't pee in the garden, so I sympathise.

I think the problem is that a dog doen't just pee to cover another dogs scent, he pees to cover EVERY scent... well mine does anyway.

The only way I've got around it is to allow him to pee up a lamp post at the end of my path. Every other dog that passes pees up it, and they were doing it for years before my boy came along.
Once he's had a little pee there we rush along on a nice spritly 'heel' until we reach the area he's 'allowed' to pee wherever he wants.
Now, this is only a 1 minute walk away, so if you have farther to go it's not going to work.

Did you say this rude neighbour had a dog? Maybe just talking to them and explaining your dog won't pee in your own garden, then ask them to bring theirs around for a pee... in the hope that yours then starts to pee over theirs? I tried this for a friend, but it didn't work. It does for some though so it might be worth a shot.

when walking Molly I won't let her pee or poop on someone else's lawn. And if you know a person isn't a dog owner you can bet they aren't happy to have someone's dog marking up their lawn.
And I also don't like it when my neighbors have let their dogs pee or poop in my yard - my dog doesn't leave deposits in theirs and I don't appreciate it when their dogs do on mine.
So I used to scoop it up with a shovel and very politely return said deposit to the owner of the dog's lawn!! They stopped.
If you walk your dog around your property and he has to go pee bad enough - he will. Don't give him the opportunity to water someone's lawn.

I would re-route your walk if the neighbors are bothered by this.
Try a wooded area to walk your dog. Most dogs enjoy peeing on as many bushes and tree's as they can find.
