|
|
Took the boys in for a physical last weekend and both were fine except that both were exactly 5 pounds over their ideal weight. Started them on a diet of slightly reduced rations to get the weight off. After two days I guess Freckles got tired of the diet so he ate half a tennis ball. Now the waiting game to see if it passes through OK.
What can I add to their food to make them think they are getting enough?
I have heard green beans work. What else? |

| cooked carrots too. Grean beans have alot of fiber, potatos, I give Jake cooked potatoes, I think that really helps with his fullness, but nore sure how caloric they are |

This is a link to an article by Chris Zink titled "Corpulant Canines" This really works well. |

Dukesdad ---
I have a question --
How many tennis balls has Freckles eaten?
Wasn't it just recently that he ate one? And you found it (in pieces) a few days later?
Maybe you should explore the bulk feeling and calorie count of tennis balls for the little guy! |

hermann,
Yes Freckles has eaten them in the past. I try to notice when he cracks one open, you can hear him squishing it, and I toss it before he tears it into edible size pieces. Somehow he found this piece out in the yard and when he got it into his mouth he clamed up. The only way you can get him to release something is to offer a trade. He never mastered the leave it command, my fault. When I got a treat to offer him he sat like a good boy but then rapidly chewed and swallowed the chunk of ball. |

Too Funny !
My dog gets lock-jaw too when he has something he shouldn't have! Hi tips me off to his mischief when I see him slowly walking, with his head down, behind the dining room table! I think he thinks that he is invisible!!
Anyway, when I go to check on him - he just locks his jaw shut!!! I can't even get his mouth open enough to slip his flew inbetween his teeth!!!
The trade idea is great! I have done that a few times to take away a larger rawhide (I don't want him eating the whole thing in one sitting!) He'll trade the rawhide for a milkbone! (silly puppy.) |
