? bout bathroom habits

I mentioned in previous post I took in a stray, that was obviosly a housecat at one point but had been out on its own for awhile. He used the litter box as soon as I set it down. Now the problem is he doesnt cover it up and I have never seen bigger poops out of a 9# cat . Is there anyway to train to them to cover their poo?

i havent ever heard of such a training method if there is one.

Cats usually cover their droppings to help avoid detection in the wild and such. Maybe this one just doesnt care who knows hes around?

Sierra doesn't cover her stuff either, and I think her sister showed her how it's done. But now she piles all the litter in the box in one place!

I honestly dont know any way that you can teach a cat a natural instinct. Maybe it will just click one day? Or you could try showing him.

I think I read somewhere that dominate male cats don't cover their poo in the wild. I know I've seen scat on hiking trails that looks like what I scoop out of my boxes.

Copper doesn't cover his either...but that's probably not a good example. I've just thankful that he goes in the box.

Our cats used to be pretty bad about not covering theirs and Ten appointed herself the official litterbox monitor. She'd go in after the other cats and cover it for them. Since she's not around any more, they've gotten better about covering after they're done.

We have Littermaids, though, so it doesn't really matter one way or the other since it gets scooped out 10 minutes after they go anyway.

LOL Honeybears, this thread made me giggle..
One of mine doesn't cover his up either, I think its my youngest, because Jay my other cat, he's older, he goes in there and covers it all up lol...
