My parakeets were raised on dried corncob litter in the bottom of their cage. I know that this is not the best for them, so I replaced the bottom grate in the cage and put paper underneath. Their diet is pelleted food. Now, they eat the poop in their cage! Are they just clean birds who believe in recycling to the highest degree? Any answers? They are eating plenty from food dish. Birds that eat poop have a vitamin deficiency.
I do not believe in a pellet only diet birds should also have access to seed and fruit and vegtables.

Vitamin problems can cause problems for a birds digestive track so also make sure they have cuttlefish bone and mineral block in there cages at all times.
