Good Morning Honeybears:
Annabelle is a shelter American Pit-bull terrier with her ears cropped (probably a little bit too short) She was the product of those wonderful back yard breeders that we all so love!
I must say that she is one of my particular favorite dogs though. She is around two years old now.
She has a remarkable story.
Annabelle was saved actually within ONE hour of her being euthanized by the shelter she came from.
A friend of mine volunteers at the shelter Annabelle was located at.
She called me very upset and crying that they had to put her down due to no more room at the inn. She asked me if I could URGENTLY help. I did. Once I met Annabelle, I found out that she was VERY VERY shy and had probably been beaten with objects that resembled sticks. Every time she would see a cane, tree branch, baseball bats, etc… she would go into a terrible panic, she would back up a few feet, her ears would go back and she would not stop barking. When she saw the same person walking without the cane or baseball bat, she was fine. She would cower and shake sometimes too.
She also would stare down strangers and fixate on them when I took her to a park. It was obvious that her past owners had abused her.
Therefore, it has taken me since last August to get her to realize that she is now safe and loved. My husband and I have spent hours upon hours training her and making her feel safe in public places. I had intensions of adopting her out but once I realized the severity of her problems, I did not feel safe adopting her. My oldest dog died this past December so that left one spot open for me to keep Annabelle.
She is now the happy dog you see playing at the park. Annabelle and I are also going to be featured on the front page of the Humane Society of the United States newsletter this coming spring. She is currently in training for her Canine Good Citizenship certificate. We still have some work to go but we are on our way.
Annabelle has such personality and charisma. She is an AWSOME DOG. She loves to play with other dogs and enjoys life to the fullest. I cannot tell you how happy I am to proudly own and love her. I gather you realize this by the way I speak about her!

thanks for the info, I was asking because I have seen other posts here that look similar and yet like truepits pics, they dont loook alike so I thought there has to be different breeds. that is awesome she will be featured in the HSUS mag. I get it so I will be looking for her Very Happy

my wylie was a stray and she was also abused. she would cower at people wearing dark clothing or with walking sticks. It took her almost two years to fully warm up to us and feel safe and loved, she is the sweetest dog.

the reward is all of love and patience we give to see them blossom.

Hi Again:
She and I will be featured on the HSUS News Letter. I will try to take a pic of it when I receive it in the mail to show.
The difference between True Pits pics and Annabelle is this:
TruePits dogs are exactly that! True Pits. From great blood lines. Annabelle is from a "Back Yard Breeder". She is not the quality dog like the dogs that True Pits have. We ADORE her anyway!
Take care,
Sue

Sue, thank you for clarifying, even though she was from a BYB, I still thought it was a different PB breed from truepits.

so nice to hear she has a loving home with you. there is an articll in USA today today about the abandoned animals at a big military base in Georgia, and people get served up and they just dump their pets, it is so heartbreaking.
