Do bubblers help your tank

A guy from one pet store told me that putting a bubbler strip in your tank will help get more oxygen in the water and help keep the nitrites down. A guy at another pet store told me that It is totally cosmetic. Will putting a bubbler in my tank help the fish, keep them more healthy, keep my water cleaner, or keep the nitrites down. Or are the bubblers purley cosmetic.

Please let me know if you know anything about this subject.

Air stones won't help reduce nitrItes. However, they will slightly reduce the effects of nitrIte poisoning. They work by aggitating the surface of the water which increases the amount of oxygen in it. But in most cases, the filter should cause enough aggitation so you really don't need an air stone. Basically, although they help with oxygen a little, they're mostly cosmetic.

yea, pretty much for looks and keeping the top of the water moving if it isnt enough.....my fish love to play in them by swimming back and forth through them.

they are not needed but they are good for fishes entertaiment

I'm going through toxic levels of nitrite now and have added an airstone to help. Hpw much help does an airstone provide?...and are there any other suggestions besides 30%-50% water changes to help me get my nitrite levels under control?

Since I posted my initial question about the airstones, I have gotten my nitrites to zero and have done some major cleanup to my tank in the way of gravel vacuuming. I just added a HOB filter the other day...that in addition to my undergravel filter. I'm doing about 25% water changes weekly now. Everyone is happy and healthy.
I'm taking my two Chinese Algae Eaters back to the Pet Store today. I'm going to add a couple of Rosey's and another Cory Cat. That will give me 5 Rosey Barbs, 3 Cory Cats, and an Angel Fish. That should be plenty for my 30 gallon community tank. Thanks for checking in with me.
