TRIBAL POLICE FIND DECAPITATED DOGS
Police on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation at Akwesasne are trying to find who killed more than 20 dogs, mostly pit bulls, which washed up along the banks of the St. Regis River recently.
The carcasses, some which had been decapitated, were discovered by residents who notified the tribe’s environmental division.
A spokesman tells the Watertown Daily Times that they don’t know how the animals died, who they belonged to or how they ended up along the river.
A State Police spokesperson said there’s little evidence there dogs were part of any kind of pit bull dog fighting ring.
There were reports that some of the carcasses carried gunshot wounds.
