I assume you would check out the owners of the bitch and be sure they are doing things properly, including having homes lined up for the puppies and contracts to take the pups back at any time for any reason?
What is the benefit to doing this? What are the potential problems? |

Well. The bitches would have to be in MY care....I will not be sending him ANYWHERE.
It'll be under the supervision of my vet as well.
Well we set up a chart
Good things:
He has a great bloodline
Strong herding drive
Hard working and abilities that have past to his puppies
His great confermation
intelligence
strong instincts
Bad things:
I'll have extra dogs
worry about dog agression
general hastle of it
something happening to the bitch or him.
I've had a few breeders from Australia, and a couple from the states and one from South America contact me about breeding to him. Given that he's only one dog, I have to be VERY selective and careful.
You know me. I'm a stickler for details. They HAVE to be certified breeders, show me proof of all testing health and performace on the bitches, and follow my conditions. All puppies checked and have proper homes. Along with any that don't have homes, they either come to me or they keep them....
I don't know. Thats why I posted. Wht everyones views are on this. I've studded out my stallion, but thats a whole lot diffrent.... |

So they send you the dog and you send her back to have the puppies? I know so little about this!
I think it would be okay, with all the proper agreements. You know what you're doing, after all. |

| If its with in a reasonable distance. Flying pregnant bitches isn't a good idea though. The stres from the flight can cause them to abort the litter.... Though shipping frozen semen to a vet and having Their Vet AI isn't a bad idea either.....I would have to have all documentation and proof that they used the semen for the selected bitch and it was done properly by a certified vet. |

No one sends out studs... So it's a norm for Bitches to go to the stud and be bred and if shipped they have pups at the stud's place...that can cost and would increase a stud fee etc... But you'd have to work that out with each person for a Bitch... It'd be a good way to procure a good breeding female too...pick female for half off of stud fee or something... Studs are better than Bitches to have because they tend to pay for themselve easier...not that it's about the money but breeding is a business...so breaking even is a plus and something to think about.
Sounds good to me!!! Riot's open to stud but without proof of offspring hard to get anyone interrested...so that'd be one thing to consider. |

Well Smokeys offspring have all performed and shown...all but one. So he's defiantely proved himself there. Thats why ppl are calling...
Thats one thing I was worried about. Keeping the bitch until she whelped. I know I would NOT agree to that. I want my puppies on my ground. Ie: I socialize and train them. Soooo
they'll either leave them with me which I don't mind, or come to get them.
As far as shipping frozen semen. Have you ever heard of this on dogs? I do this with our bull and stallion, but never a dog before.
I'm going to go for it, as for the money. No I'm not in it for the money, but I do need something to help pay for his costs....You know what I mean.... |

| I've heard of shipping frozen semen for dogs...but it's not as high tech as with the horses...they take the sample or whatever and send it ASAP to the vet who is inseminating and they do it right away...I don't think the freeze semen for future use much at all like with horses... |

| You can always try? but I guess the main thing you need to worry about is the mom health (before after and during pregnancy) and homes for the babies. Good Luck |
