I have had some ims about coat types ,growth patterns and other inquireys on crossbreeds .
In this thread we will try to answer all questions to those that wish to learn or anyone that has info can add and we will always try to be as precise and totally honest .
First ...Crossbreeds ...a term called hybrid vigor is applied to crossbreeding ,this term means ,more robust ,less genetic defects and more .Alot of people believe that only in the first generation of a crossbreed that this can apply to..others feel that it can apply to several generations as long as no inbreeding is done .I agree with the second opinion ,but that is my thoughts only .

coats ...since there are may crossbreeds we will take the two most popular it seems here and use as examples ...
Shihpoo ...
A cross of Shih Tzu and Poodle ...playfull ,happy ,loyal and people friendly .
Coat variations ....shihpoos as all crossbreeds can have different type coats according to the gene they pull .
I would say a majority of them have a slightly curly to curley coat .However the Shih Tzu has a straight hair coat and if that gene is the dominating factor ,a puppy can come out with straight hair ...It has happened .
size ...there are differennt sizes Shih poos as there are in all toy dogs ,
since hybrid vigor means more robust ,most crossbreeds tend to be larger than their parents ,parents do play a roll but is not the deciding factor of how large or small a crossbreed is .
features ...
Shih Tzus have a flater face ,Poodles have the longer one ...Most shih poos have a middle version of this ,however again hte dominant gene they pull that determines each individual puppy decides that factor .I have seen htem look so much like hte Shih Tzu you could not tell hte difference and then have hte straight hair with the long poodle face ...
Standards ...NO reasonable standard can be given to a crossbreed ,hIn one litter alone you can have each puppy that has a totally different look ,coat ,size ...Standards are NOT even feasable .
next we will discuss the Maltipoo and others ,,anyone with a reasonable view can join this discussion .we are here to help and learn togehter

My 9 week old shih poo weighs about 4 pounds right now. The breeder said she would get between 12-16 pounds. Does that sound about right? She would triple or quadruple in size by the time she's full grown? I'm not sure if her father was a toy or mini poodle.

Thanks!!
