Up and down Joy Street neighbors told Action News 5 they didn't want to talk about it, with the exception of a few people who've been around for a while.

"I knew something was going on," said one resident. That something was big. Friday, federal and local officers raided a house and arrested its owner, Albert Smith. He was served with a federal indictment for drug sales.

When they showed up here, Smith drew a gun and they had to disarm him. In back, they found what some say is the largest pit bull fighting ring in the state of Tennessee. A judge has ordered that 42 dogs found here be put down. And they found hundreds of grams of crack cocaine, large amounts of marijuana, and weapons.

"I saw the peoples in the road. I didn't know what was going on. I thought they had robbed a bank. I didn't know," said one woman, who wished to remain anonymous. Police have hinted that Smith might not be their only target, but won't say much about the scope of their investigation. But Charlie Young, who lives down the block, is thankful for some action.

"I think the police done right. That need to have been stopped," said neighbor Charlie Young. He says the street is littered with children, and things were getting out of control here. In addition to drugs, dogs and guns.

Police also confiscated four vehicles including a Lincoln Navigator, a number of 4-wheelers and other items. Smith is due in Federal Court in Memphis Thursday morning for a detention hearing.

Whalt will we do about all these people with drugs, DOGS, and guns?! That is so ridiculous. If he had 42 pomeranians, would they have all been put down, too? I also wonder if he had APBT's or boxers or what. How awful for the breed to be associated with this sort of junk!!!
