Help: Cat ate an 2 feet rope

Hi,

I have left a toy (stick with rope) with my cat at home but when I come back home the rope is broken. The are about 2 feet of the rope missing so I suspect my cat ate it. Is there any way to check if the cat had eaten it? And if it ate it, what should I do? Thanks alot for help.

i just went through this today. my kitty ate a string that was on my sweatpants.

two feet of string is alot....if the cat ate it, it is extremely serious. the string will get tangled in his/her intestines and create a blockage. they can die from it. something that long would probably require surgery. that is very expensive. i would look under couches, beds etc just to make sure the kitty didnt just hide it somewhere.

watch for vomiting. that is usually a sign of blockage. if it were my kitty, i would take it to get xrays to be on the safe side. i have to tell you, though, the xrays and exam today cost me 300.00. be prepared.

ultimately, i always err on the side of caution. i would take the kitty in asap.

2 ft is alot..I would get him to the vet.
My grandmother's cat ate some string and the vet gave him a shot or something that caused the string to break up and pass through.

Take the cat to the vet ASAP. My Monty ate a 2 foot thin rope once. Hubby noticed a string hanging out of his butt. When he tried to pull it out a little bit, Monty jumped away and hubby ended up with an extremely smelly rope in his hand. We were going to the vet, but luckily Monty did not have rectal bleed or an obstruction. We could have easily shredded his colon with that string getting pulled out so fast. Hubby was taught a lesson to never leave any chewables even tucked away at a utility room. Cats will find a way to play and eat whatever they want.

Thanks. We have called the vet. The vet talked about putting a mirror in the cat's stomach but this probably won't show anything because it had been a while. The vet suggested us to watch the cat's eating and bring it in if necessary. Now I just hope she will be OK.

I just wanted to add that if she begins passing it and it hangs out of her butt, just snip it short, do NOT (I repeate), do NOT pull on it. My sister in law's kitty ate tinsil one year from the xmas tree and the vet told her to let it pass and just snip it as it begins to appear.
