Okay... in 10 more days we pick up our girls.... OMG.... Surprised ..... anyway...

I have already visited one vet's office and am going to call another one today.

What did you look for in a vet? I figure the office should be clean, staff friendly, vet kind and experienced. Anything else?

Did you visit the vet with or w/o your dog? Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

I like a vet that will answer all my questions AND TAKES TIME WITH ME AND MY DOGS.

Excellent point! I had a doctor once that would never listen to me and hated that.

I'm hoping, that by calling today, I can possibly talk to the vet this Friday. I will see how willing he/she is to answer my questions and see if I am rushed.....

Thanks! Very Happy

YES!! Someone that will take the time to hear your concerns, and questions. What I like about my Vet. he is very personable asks me how Riley's doing, he talks to Riley while he's examining him so I know that he cares. It shows me that he genuinely cares and he's not just being nice b/c he know he's going to get paid. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. If you dont feel comfortable at your vet you may have good reason, find another one, ask people in your area who they recommend and why. Your puppy's life is in their hands you have to establish good trust with them!

Maybe that helps a little. Let us know how everything goes!

Good luck! Very Happy

The most important thing is to have one that listens and answers your questions .Make a list of questions as a test for the vets .Ask ,you may not always agree with their answers ,but if they take the time to try and answer ,then they more than apt can be your choice .

I agree 100% with all of the above posts...all of those points are important to look for in your future vet! As you mentioned you will be doing, meeting with the vet in person is very important as well!!! Very Happy

** Quick Update **

We chose a vet for the girls today! Surprised We stopped by after work... 1/2 hr before they were closing so we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

We were given a tour (something we were not given at the last place..) and we were very happy. Funny thing though, as we were pulling up to the building, we saw a sign that said they were moving to a new location.. so, I asked about that. The vet, who also owns the practice, feels they've outgrown the current building and he wants a more modern facility ~ so, they are planning to move to a new development that is going in 10 minutes away from our house! They are not moving until the Fall, so no big changes just yet..

The vet has owned the practice for 15 years, his associate has been there 10 years and the full time assistant has been there 12 years. Needless to say, we felt very comfortable that there isn't a lot of turnover with the medical staff Very Happy Molly & Emma have their 'wellness checkup' next Friday!! Believe me.. it started to feel real when I was making their appt. today!

One more thing crossed off my checklist ~ our girls have a doctor! Surprised

Oh, I totally agree... FANTASTIC!!
I love the fact that they took the time with you... tour and all!! Bailey got a tour on his first visit and the vet took him around to all the other employees to "introduce our new friend, Bailey"... I JUST LOOOOOVED THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! (If truth be told, I HAD A FREAKIN LUMP IN MY THROAT! LOL) And I even took a picture of him with her (the vet) on his first visit and kept apologizing for looking like a freak. She kept telling me NO WAY, she liked it... and that she obviously didn't have to prescribe "love" for him. (he he he)

Awww......... that's too sweet!! I hope that Molly & Emma are just as pleased when they meet everyone next week. I'm sure I'll be quite nervous, as that will be the first *public* place we take them!
