New mother of cockatiel needs help

About a three days ago, I became the mother of a cockatiel. The cockatiel was recently abused and turned a bit mean, which is one of the reasons I adopted him. However, every night, he has been up chirping loudly in his cage all night. Now, this does not bother me because I am up all night any ways. But I am worried that he is not getting enough sleep. Does any one know why he will not sleep? I cover his cage up and have the lights off and everything.

Hi and congrats on getting a tiel.
Birds usually sing all the time to get there owners attention or if they are bored.
Mine will sing and sing until i let them out of there cage.
With yourbird it could be just till he settles in to his new surroundings and you may find he will quieten down..
If he can hear you while his cage is covered then he knows your still up and will sing for you..
