We got a Shih-Poo puppie on December 28th. She is an absolute darling and I can't get over just how endearing and clever she is already. Kristel was born on October 25, 2005. Her first trip to the vet was on December 29 for her first check up. She is in excellent health and weighs 1.5 kg. She is all for lots of licks and cuddles and loves going for walks wearing her new orange ski jacket. Right now she is black with under colourings of grey and tan. Such a sweetie and a perfect with our family.

Welcome and I hope you can post some pictures of your new addition! My shih-poo is 6 months old and just came back from getting spayed-I was a nervous wreck. It has taken her 4 days to resemble being her old self and unfortunately got colitis-probably from the stress of surgery according to our vet. Have fun and post some pics!!

I have taken loads of pics and I will post as soon as I get them downloaded from my camera. I made a mistake in Kristel's date of birth. It should have read October 25, 2006 not 2005. I have read most of the other topics and posts regarding everyone's puppies and have enjoyed all of them and found them to be really informative.

My son named her and it really suits her to the ground. 1.5kg is 3lbs. She is a real heavy weight LOL. She was the runt of the litter but the one with the most personality.

Smile What coloring is she? again....can't wait to see pics!

3 lbs at 8 weeks is actually pretty big (not big big...just big). Smile Baxter, my little one, weighed 2.11 (I just looked at the charts, so I was wrong on another post) at 13 weeks. He weighed 8.02 at his one year appointment and now is at 8.2 (15 months old). Bailey (the 3 year old) is a burly 16 lbs... he was about 3 lbs + at his first appointment, which was 10 weeks old. I never charted his weight, so couldn't tell you more than that Smile

Kristel is black with a grey undercoat. We took her for a walk tonite and she was a fashion queen wearing her orange jacket. We have a sail boat so in the spring when the boat splashes in, she will be fitted for a life jacket.

I tried to post some pics but I got a message saying that I had to make a certain number of posts before I could post any pics. So, when I get to the right number of posts, I will certainly post what pics I have.

oh that's news to me...never heard of a restriction on posting pictures. How weird.

Can't wait to see your baby!! by the way... you may or may not know this, but shihpoos tend to "fade".... so don't be surprised when her black fades into a charcoally/grey. Bailey was pitch black and around 9 months or so, he started turning a charcoal (ears/head is still black tho). I found out then that it's super common. I have a friend who had a white and brown shihpoo and the brown faded out and he was all white by year 1. I think it comes from the poodle side, but not sure. Smile

The message was something like I had to make 10 posts before I could post an URL due to spam prevention. I have the pics on photobucket so maybe that is the problem. Time will tell.

I wondered if anyone here feeds their puppy plain yogurt. It was recommended to me and I had never heard of it. Do you recommend?

Hi, our shih-poo (6 months old) got giardia-a parasite that caused diahrea and our vet recommended givining her yogurt to help increase the good bacteria in her intestinal tract. She LOVES it-its a big treat for her. I give her about a tablespoon of astro pro biotic plain yogurt a day and she always has firm stools. I know its good for humans so why not dogs? It is low in lactose, which can cause problems with dogs as many of them can't digest it. I also give her a teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin (not the pie mix) as I noticed she was struggling to empty her anal glands and researched this problem that some dogs have (and didn't want to squeeze them myself-yuck!!) and since I've been giving her pumpkin every other day-she hasn't had a problem! Hope this helps-and post some pics as soon as you can, I love seeing all the varieties of shih-poos! Every one of them are soooo cute!

I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and picked up some plain yogurt. Kristel just loved it - so I will give her some every other day. I hope that I will be able to post some pics soon of her.

What a sweetheart!! I notice your from Ontario, any chance you got her from a breeder in bancroft? I only ask because she looks like one that my breeder had for sale. Don't you love the way their tails curl back? It's great you got pictures showing comparison to objects (shoe), I wish I had done that when Bailey was so small, but I found being mostly black, she doesn't photograph too well-her face was always so dark, but now that she has more "lighter" fur, you can actually see her face. Enjoy the "little" puppy stage-its so fun and they grow soo fast!

I am from Southern Ontario and purchased her from a breeder in Hamilton. I am so in love with this puppy. She is just so adorable. I am glad that you liked the pics. As I get more downloaded, I will post more.

Hi I'm new as well and am getting a Shih tzu/ toy poodle in early April. I have a few questions that i thought maybe you could answer. How many times per day should i feed her? Does anyone recommend a certain brand of dog food? If anyone has a shih-poo i would love to see pictures. Thanks!

Hi, I have a shih-poo who is 7 months old now, I can give you my opinion, but there are lots of owners here on this site. I "free feed" our puppy, and use Innova puppy food. I've done a lot of research about foods and feel this is a high quality puppy food. I also use "zukes" treats for training. I think you'll love this breed-they are so loving, playful and smart. Each one looks a little different, mine looks a lot more like a shitzu, then poodle, but has a longer muzzle. Good luck!!

Kristel my Shih-Poo is 3 months old today. I "free feed" as well and she is doing quite well. We went to the vet last Thursday and Kristel is now 4.2lbs. She was 3.3lbs when I got her on December 28th.

I have been giving her a teaspoonful of plain yogurt as a treat and she just loves it. The training has been going quite well and she loves going for walks and jumping around out in the snow. She is quite funny with all the snow stuck in her fur around her face.

You will enjoy your Shih-Poo. They are so intelligent and have great friendly personalities. We have met many new friends when we take our early morning and nightly walks.

My shihpoo was from Bancroft!

I wonder if it's the same breeder?
