I have a green cheeked conure who had an accident.

He was sitting on top of a door when my girlfriend tried to close the door, not realizing he was there. Luckily he didn't get seriously injured, but he scraped a small patch of feathers off the top of his head and now he has a bald spot there.

The skin looks healthy, no bruising, scrapes or cuts.

Just wondering what the normal regrowth is for feathers and down in this type of situation. Will they generally start to regrow immediately, or will he have to wait until he starts molting?? He is a very healthy and active bird (get's lots of fresh veggies/fruits and eats kaytee pellets)

Thanks all.

His feathers may start coming back straight away most do as birds are going through a constant molt from 6months old.

If you do not notice any pin feathers after 2 weeks then chances are you may have to wait a few weeks maybe a couple of months for them to regrow.

Its like if a bird has there wings clipped the new feathers are usually back through within 8-12 weeks, but since this is short feathers from the head these wont take as long to grow...

His feathers will probably start to come back right away. Mr. Green
