is this okay for a cat to eat like this? best dry food too

I mentioned in a previous post I am taking in a stray cat. I have been feeding her canned food for the last week and got some dry food.

Well she just swallows the food whole and doesnt chew, is this going to give her stomach problems?

I have a couple of cats that swallow dry food whole...one upchucks it, the other doesn't. But I buy Purina One and the bits are small.
Missy loves Chicken Soup dry foods but Dixie can't eat it. They all do fine with Purina One so I keep buying that.
Dixie has some dry food allergies so I have to take her into consideration

She's gorgeous and so are her new pals! You know, she really does look like Eman's Max's sister, lol! Pumpkin has always swallowed her dry foods whole and when she eats too much too fast, she upchucks (canned foos too) but it hasn't affected her weight gain. How are her teeth? Some cats will have a hard time chewing foods if they have dental and gum problems! My cats are currently eating Blue Spa Select and Purina Pro Plan. They've enjoyed Wellness, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup. I have a tendency to rotate brands.

Yes, check the teeth. But if the teeth are fine it's usually ok and sometimes normal for cats to 'wolf' down their food.

Dogs do it all the time. just a primal reaction to feeding to make sure they can get as much into their system as possible before some other preditor comes to steal it away.

Some cat food brands actually make the adult kibble size smaller, which makes it easier for them to digest

Razberry always chews his food, but Lex has times when he chews/wolfs.

The problem with a cat not chewing is that it can lead to dental problems. I feed my cat about 5 to 10 pieces of Purina Dental diet along with her other dry food. They are a bit bigger and she loves it and they crunch when eaten and help clean tartar and plaque from her teeth.

I feed my kitties Purina dry food. Cute pictures. I guess just watch her and see how she handles the dry food.

Our kitties get Chicken Soup. It doesn't have any chemicals/preservatives or by-products (the nasty, mostly undigestable parts of the animal) and the first several ingredients are meats, not grains.

They love the dry food, but don't care too much for the can. So for dinner, they generally get tuna with extra vitamins added.

Thanks for your replies! I went to Petco and they only carry a few brands. I have to get my dogs food tonight at my holistic vet, he has lots of good brands so I will check what he has.

And I think it may be a boy Its SO hard to tell if its a boy and they have been neutuered, ok this is embarrasing, I see 2 real tiny round things

To tell if your kitten is female, you will need to lift the tail and look at the back end. Both sexes will have two holes but on a female the holes will be fairly close together, whereas on a male there will be a space where the testicles were supposed to be.
but ur cat is not a kitten...so if she had 2 holes close together then she is female..if she had only one hole and then nothing underneath it right away but something under the fur.....then it is male

Congrats on your new addition. Several of my cat don't chew their food at all....just swallow the peices whole. I don't think this is uncommon for cats.

Jay is the same, he wolfs down his Biscuites like its his last meal or something
But he's never brought it all back up, I'v had to cut back on his tucker actually, he's not a year old yet, and he's quite getting too tubby
