She may have to have her leg amputated. The vet checked it a week ago and said it looks a little better but they are going to re-xray next week and if it's not much better then we may have to amputate. She said she will be much happier and not in pain and as young as she is it won't phase her much but still..yuck, poor thing.

oh my goodness!!! amputated???? eeeek. That sounds so ... umm... umm... final?? Sad I'm sure the vet knows what she is doing, but still that sounds awful. You're right, the good news is she's young and won't know the difference. If I can put in my two cents, I would recommend you get a second opinion if that's possible... for your baby, and of course for YOUR peace of mind.

It's listed on a bunch of places I looked for info as well. I would rather her have no leg than to have to be on pain meds forever. They never notice they have no leg from what I can tell of other dogs.

The growth plate is almost closed on one leg and not the other or something like that and right now she's taking 1/4 of a pill they gave me that smells really good and she just chews it. It's supposed to be for dogs with joint problems to help with pain. The vet said it wouldn't be until she is 6 or 7 months old now to see how much she grows as to how much permanent damage she has but the tablets would help her pain until then.

Thanks for the update... i'm glad to hear your baby is doing better and is not in any pain. ... (or little pain). Keep us posted!!!! I will say some prayers and send some hugs in hopes that you won't have to do the surgery... Smile
