My dog has addison's disease (I am not sure of spelling) but he now is feeling better but he keeps attacking his oldest friend of the dogs we have. |

I'm not familiar with this disease but this is what I've found so far.
Hypoadrenocorticism:
can cause hyper activity and or lathargy. weightloss, vomiting, agressive outbursts and depression.
Lack of glucocorticoids produced by adrenal cortex lGlucocorticoids essential in glucose metabolism lLack of mineralocorticoids produced by adrenal cortex lMineralocorticoids essential in sodium and potassium balance
Deficiency in the adrenal cortex to produce glucocorticoid and/or mineralocorticoid lLate onset adrenal cortex failure (but age of onset can range from 6 months to 10 years old) lTwo Categories lPrimary Hypoadrenaocorticism lSecondary Hypoadrenocorticism
Pedigree data representing ~1000 dogs lUnfortunately phenotype is absent on ~2/3 of those dogs lA subset of 266 dogs was evaluated for inheritance mode lHeritability of Addison’s is ~ 0.47 lMode of inheritance clearly polygenic
Major gene = a single gene/locus having a greater effect on the expression of a trait than the other genes influencing that same trait lHow can one gene have a significant impact on the expression of a trait? Threshold analogy and visual illustration |
