My brothers cat is an indoor/outdoor cat, and since we live in Wisconsin it's cold n' snowy here now and Riley (the cat) spends most of his time indoors now. My mother has recently noticed Riley drinking a lot of water and wondered if that could be a possible sign of diabetes. Other than drinking a lot of water he seems perfectly fine. My mother isn't even sure he's drinking more than usual, she thinks it's because he's normally outside all the time and she doesn't see him drink. It's very possible because during summer he only comes in at night, so he's out all day. He has a lot of sources to get water (they have a small pond in their flower bed) He's just about 8 years old and he's current on all his shots, he's neutered and does have regular vet visits. Does anyone know any other signs to look for? Thanks.

When my cat got diabetes, she was drinking a lot, she had aravenous appetitie and she lost weight fairly quickly despite the amount of food she was eating. Her coat lost it's glossiness and her eyes became sort of dull.
Hopefully your brother's cat is fine, but he may want to get him checked out by a vet. The sooner you catch it, the sooner you can start controlling it. |

| Hi! When my siamese cat Tiffany was diagnosed with diabetes, she was drinking a lot of water, and had a ravenous appetite. Another thing that is very noticeable is that the urine in the catbox is sticky looking. Because of the excessive water drinking, there is a lot more urine in there, and will have to be changed more often. It got to the point, that my other cat Boo did not like using the same litter box that Tiffany did, so I added another litter box, and that solved the problem. I hope all goes well, but I would definately get it checked out. Better safe than sorry. Nano. |
