Edit: I think the cat was crying more from hunger, thirst, and cold than anything else. I fed it quite a bit of leftover hamburger meat from my lunch and gave it a bowl of water. It seems very content and his badly broken tail doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it. The bone feels as if it's completely split and offset, but he seems to be fine with it. Hopefully my family will fall in love with it when they get home and we can get it some medical attention. Even my dog seems worried about it and wants nothing more than to sniff the kitty in his pet carrier.

I found a stray kitten sitting on a branch this morning. I was walking my dog and as soon as it heard me the kitten started crying in pain. I lured it off the branch with a stick and a piece of meat and eventually got it into my pet carrier. It's got a horribly mangled tail and I can't afford to take it to the vet. I'm now waiting for animal control to contact me, but I don't have much hope for that. What can I do for it or what can I give it for pain to tide it over until animal control hopefully gets back to me?

I don't know if it's crying from pain, because it's fine as long as it doesn't know that someone is the room, so hopefully it's just scared Sad It looks like someone might have tied something around this cats tail and swung it around. If it was up to me I would have it at the vet by now. I can't even tell if it's bloody or anything because I can't get a good look at it in the pet carrier and I don't want to let it out and running around the house because I have a dog and want to wait for my father to get home. He knows better than I do.

Thanks for your help

Liz

if you can't afford the necessary medical care contact a vet, explain the situation to them, and see if they'll accept the kitten. My vet will do this sort of thing and then work on rehoming.

the poor kitty... my shadow was abused before we got her 2. her tail is also broken and when we brought her home she hid under the piano for 3 days. im the only one in my family she trusts, mom says that its because i was the first one to give her any positive attention.
