90 gallon fish tank

so me and my girlfried were out wandering around looking at different garage sales and stuff and we found this awsome 90 gallon corner tank. And only for $100. It has no leaks and it only three years old. We saw it but passed it by. Today we were thinking that it would be a great buy and we could put it away untill we get a bigger place in a year or two. So we called back today and they still have it. Its been 3 days and no ones bought it yet.
Anyone think we should go for it.

oh ya also i noticed a hole cut in the side of the tank with a pvc pipe coming out of it. I know it went to a sump which means it was a salt water tank but could it still be there if i mak eit a fresh water tank.

you could just seal over the hole, but i dont know if that would work well.

I don't know how you would go about setting it up, but I do know that you can use a sump with a freshwater tank. I wouldn't try just patching the glass because that's a lot of pressure and I think it would probably blow out any seal you put there. Unless maybe you could put a cap on the PVC but I'm still not going to guarantee that it won't leak. Another option would be to completely replace that pane of glass.

So we just got home with the new 90 gallon tank and it is huge. It just barly fit through the doors. the bad thing is it has to be moved again in a month or two. It is absolutly filthy. It was a salt water tank and haddent been cleaned in three years. Does anyone have any good recomendations on filters, heaters, pumps, and even ways or products i could use to clean it up. It has red algea all over it and salt clumps everywhere. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I think you should set up the sump. You COULD try patching the hole form the insdie with a peice of glass and a few tubes of silicon that way when it is filled up the water will be putting preasure on the patch to stay in that spot.

razor blade to get the coralline algea(red) just be careful around the corners where it's sealed. you could use a sump or do what M_wm said and use a piece of glass/plastic and silicone it over the hole. i think either would work just fine. the salt will just wash off. for a tank that big, depending on what you are putting in it, a sump would probably be your best bet. if you want to go more simple, get 2 HOB (hang on back) filters. something like the emporer 280. i've got one of those and the emporer 400 that i've had for a couple of years and they are doing fine. salt and fresh. good luck

ok so i researched the sump idea and it seems like to much work and money.
I decided to go with two AquaClear 300 which aree rated for a 75 gallon (i think) so im going to have to cap off the sump hole. Since i dont want to completely get rid of the hole im just simply going to turn the flange around so the elbow is inside the tank and then cap it off and hide it with plants and stuff.

yeah those are nice. my lfs had one with his mascot fish in it. it was an angler the size of a volley ball! great stuff. did it come with a canopy and stand too?

unfortunatly no.
I am planing to start building one very soon and im hoping for less that $100 but that may be pushing it. I hoping though.

yes acctually i was planninmg to build my sump but i still dont think its worth it. Its so much work. I had it all figured out and then i thought of what happens if the power goes out. I will just over flow all over the ground unless i put float switches in then i have to get into all of the electronics and its just alot easier to buy a filter.

Oh ya i spent two hours cleaning it the other day and i did use vinigar and water and a scrubby pad.
