Hey everyone, I just wanted to share this with you. For those of you who don't know about my Amstaff Harley, she is VERY dog aggressive. Well, this weekend, me and my bf took her to the dog park by our house. This pak is HUGE! It would take you hours to get for one end to the other. Anyways, we got there, and I was really nervous. We chose a straight path along the route rather than taking her uphill where lots of other people with dogs are. Of course, we kept her on lead at all times but she was great. She just ran and ran with curt. I hadn't seen her smile that big in a long time. So, now that my anxiety ovrthe situation is over, we will be hiking there everyday. It'll do both of us some good. I think I still have christmas weight to burn of! hehe. Anyways, to some this may not be a huge deal, but for thse of you who know how aggressive these guys can be, this was a great accomplishment for Harley. I am so proud of her. Wondering, has anyone eve tried the leashes that tie around your waist? I am not sure they would be good for this kind of walking, but I have read a lot on leash anxiety and how the dog can feel your tension throught the lead so I thought this may be a good idea. Anyone ever done it? Thanks IP: Logged |

YEs I've seen them, and what can happen with people that use them. I was reading something..ummm I believe its call canine safety talk or something, I found the magazine at Petsmart... ...anyhow Then the article went on to say how a younger man went hiking with his dog, and the dog slipped down the side of the hill pulling the owner who couldn't undo the belt down with him. He suffered major lacerations at the waist, broken pelvis and other bones. And a little girl was injured really bad from one. the 4 1/2 month old lab mix pup decided to chase something and severly cut her abdomen. I wouldn't advise using one of these "hands free" devices. I'm sorry but as an animal woman, the 1st and most important part to leading any animalis to never tie yourself to the animal. Your safty is ALWAYS first. IP: Logged |

no doubt! Thank you for letting me know. I have never myself seen one. I was just reading about it in a obedience group I belong to. I am very glad I asked aobut that. I didn't think I would be able to do it with Harley anyways. She can probably pull about 1000-1500 pounds, and me being only 110 would be no match. Its hard enough to not fall when I have both hands on the leash. That little rascal! Thanks Sam! Leslie IP: Logged |

Glad I could help. I'm sure it would be a great tool for a chi or small terrier or someting like that, but for dogs that can pull hundreds and thousands of lbs...I don't think so!Especially if the dogs almost out weigh you! IP: Logged |

Hi Leslie: Great accomplishment!!! You must be proud. Our dog Cairo does not have dog aggression, actually he is a submissive male. The problem is he does not know how to approach another dog without getting the other dog in a tizzy. He will drag me miles if he sees another dog in the park mainly for curiosity reasons. Anyway, we always have our hands full when we take him anywhere with us. People are afraid of him because of the way he approaches their dogs. He is a huge a$$ on a leash!! I have tried the no hands leash and had NO luck!!! I'm with Sam on this one!! Even wearing the prong collar, we still have trouble walking him. Believe it or not, Cairo is now a joy to take! It did the trick for me. Then I say "GO "and he runs the other way as fast as he can. Its funny watching him. Its the best $20.00 I ever spent. I liked it so much, I switched all my dogs over to the flexi leash! Susan IP: Logged |

Thanks Susan, I may look into that. I'm guessing it doesn't make a difference but can it work with a harness. That's what Harley has so she doesnt choke herself. Thanks IP: Logged |

Hey Leslie: About the harness, I had one custom made from Canada!!! LOL I guess we think alike? Yes, it works ok. My dog just seemed to do the best with the flexi leash. I say whatever works for you then go for it!! I have a great idea? ASK DRAGON LOL LOL LOL IP: Logged |

LMAO over Dragon Dude LOL I honestly believe that he is just a child that probably was brain washed by his parents. Its quite obvious that he knows nothing about our breed. My goal is to find out in a polite manner what makes people hate our beloved breed so much then try to educate them in a positive way. Much like you do AS you know, it is hard to sometimes hold our tounges!!! LOL Unfortunatly, some people are as thick as a brick and its not worth it. He is one of those characters.
