I am beginning to see more odd behaviors in pittys that come through my shelter. One in particular that really bothers me is that they are completely obsessed with trees and their branches. When they go out into the courtyard whine, jump and grab branches on the tree and shake them off. The branches are really high up, and the whining and barking does not sound like they're having fun....it sounds very distressed. They can't be called or tempted out of it, it just gets worse and more hysterical the longer it goes on. I thought originally that it may just be an odd behavior related to stress from being in the shelter....but since it started in the shelter, I've seen more than a few pits at the dog park doing exactly the same thing. I've also heard of quite a few people in the area complaining about their pits shadow chasing (obsessively) If it were just a here and there thing that didn't happen very often, I wouldn't think too deeply on it. But the number of cases that I'm hearing about is far more than normal, and only with pit bulls. I'm worried that with all the punk kids back yard breeding these poor dogs over the last few years that this is a result of some severly unstable dogs. Any input?? IP: Logged |

If I had to guess I'd say do to poor breeding practises the pitts in your area are comeing out with bad nurves. I'v seen tail chasing & biteing as well here in CT. IP: Logged |
