I have 2 apbt's a male and female. The male is 8 months and the female 1 year. Both are very people friendly. Here is the question, my female will bark and bark if someone is at the door or around my home until I check it out and tell her that's o-kay girl now that's enough. My male however never barks at anything. If he hears someone come to the door he will just stand and listen at the door. Why do you think that one barks and one never does? Also This female is attatched to my hip! Never takes her eyes off of me. The eye contact is so great as if to say what do you want me to do now? She is always in the same room with me and even if she is laying down as soon as I move she's jumping up. If my husband is home she is much more relaxed, just curious why she is this way?

My males are always like that. Your female sounds a lot like mine, she won't usually leave my side, and won't take her eyes off me. First time at a show when I was going over to talk to someone she started screaming in her crate throwing a fit because I left her site. Then again I left and she was alert looking for me everywhere, my friend said. Then when I leave she won't leave the door until I get back. Same thing for laying down, if I just make like I am going to get up out of this chair she will wake up before I'm even on my feet and be ready to follow me. She is also protective, she barks, she will growl if she hears a noise, something suspicious, not just for any noise or for non sense. Dogs are different from one another just like people. That is the only reason I can say and the fact that my males are never protective, but the females are. Could just be coincedence, but I don't think so.

Thanks for the response. It just seems strange to me because I have had my male for about 4 months now and the female only 3 weeks. It seems he would be the more protective one because he has been with me longer.

Your female dog sounds like she loves you alot and she never wants to be away from you because she is scared that you won't come back.

Yeah, I think she used to have bad seperation anxiety when she was a puppy. She always wants to be with me, BUT at least she doesn't have seperation anxiety attacks or things like that! God I don't know what I would do. If she tore things up or soiled the floor, or any of those other things a lot of them do. I'm content with her waiting by the door and laying by me.

I knew this Boxer who would go to the bathroom all over the house when his owners left and tear everything up. Amongst other problems, temperment and health. He was a white Boxer, his owner was a backyard breeder. She was selling him because she said he wouldn't breed. He was also deaf in one ear and had severe breathing probs. Stupid BYBs.

Yeah maybe it's seperation anxiety. I can leave her alone in the house and she doesn't due anything wrong, she just goes to sleep. I have set up my camcorder just to see what she does and she just waits at the door for about 5 min. after I leave and then she goes to her bed. I am very thankful that she doesn't rip my house apart. It seems to just be when I am home with her that she acts like this. Of course now I have another question, This same dog{katy is her name by the way} has never had problems with any person she has met until last night. My neighbor a couple streets over who is a woman came by to visit, I invited her in and introduced her to Katy. They had never met before. Katy sniffed her, looked, and backed up only to sit basically on top of my feet and growled at her. I asked my neighbor to not look at or approach her but to come sit at the table, we did. Katy laid at my feet and just stared at her the whole time. When it was time for my neighbor to leave she got up from the table and Katy immediately stood up and began to bark very aggresively! never took a step forward but just stood her ground and continued acting this way. I am confused to why she acted this way and I don't want to second guess my dog, However this worries me a bit. Any suggestions on why she would have done this?

dont worry about your dogs, just soak it up and sit back and be glad that you have such good dogs, and when mine act that way i wish the people that have problyms with pits could see how dependable they are,and how much love they have for there owners

I heard that female dogs are more protective due to some kinda maternal instinct, but I dont really know.
