What is the oldest you would recommend cropping a pit ears? My pit 5 1/2 mos. old. I wasn't going to crop but his ears aren't developing correct. The right ear is erect and forward like I want it but the left ear is down and toward the side. I think if I crop I would look better IP: Logged |

I wouldn't crop any dog after 12 weeks (actually, I doubt I'll ever have a dog cropped), but some vets will crop dogs of any age. Some dogs ears get really goofy when they're going through a teething stage, then settle in once that's over with. You could try taping them into the position you want them, and if done right, they might stay that way (ask your breeder and/or vet for directions on how to do it, as I'm guessing you could do some harm if you didn't tape them properly). It sounds (no guarantees though)like your dog might just be a case of the cartilage in his ear being weak right now because he's teething, and flopping. WE were going to have this done to one of our pups . until the vet talked us out of it . they say it's as painful to them as it would be to us. and it cannot be fixed if its done wrong the ears will be misfigured for life, we've had a few goofy pups but they've grown out of it, give your dog some time and then make a choice ! good luck.
