my hamster has begun to lose hair on her back by her back legs. She is 1 1/2 years old. Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? Is it old age? IP: Logged |

I've seen rabbits and other small animals lose hair around their back sides when the cage is too dirty and they've been running around in their own filth for too long. Another reason could be dry skin. At least where I am, during the winter, it gets very dry. You could try some Bag Balm, originally designed for chapped cow udders, to soothe its skin. And if its a Dwarf hampster, it could very well be old age. Dwarfs don't live as long as full sized hampsters. Hope that helps. IP: Logged |
