I've had my parakeet for just about 10 days. In that time, I've only heard him chirp only 4 or 5 times. Is he still getting adjusted to his new home, or is he just the quiet type??

Hi some birds take longer to adjust than others.
Talking alot to him will help him along you will find the more he is talked to the more he will chat back to you.
Patience is the key.

Thanks for that quick reply, Mike!! I do try and talk to him a lot. At least, when I'm home. I feel bad leaving him alone while I'm at work. I even stop home on my lunch hour to keep him company. He does seem to listen when I talk. You can see his little head tilt as he's listening... it's the cutest thing..... now if I can only get him to eat his veggies!

Hiya leaving a radio on or tv while your not at home will also help him.

As for the veggies putting them chopped up in a seperate food dish can sometime helps teach them that these are food some birds just plain refuse them.

He's watching the Cartoon Channel on TV, as we speak!

I've been putting fresh veggies and/or fruit in a dish every day, hoping... I tried taking his seed out of the cage for about an hour last night and replaced it with grapes, sprinkled with seeds. It took him a while, dancing around the dish, but he started eating the seeds. I don't know if he even tasted the grapes.... I'll keep trying.

Thanks again
