I have a algea problem not on glass of the tank or the ornaments but the water. my pleco keeps the tank pretty clean but my water is green my tank is in a bad location it gets to much sunlight, what is the best way to get rid of the green water i really dont want to move my tank and risk losing my fish from the move. will an algeaside starve my pleco? i need a way thats easy on the fish and easy on my wallet. I had the same problem once and I went to the pet store and got some stuff called algeafix. I think it called for one teaspoon of medication for every 10 gal. of water but I only put 2 teaspoons in my 35 gal tank and by the next morning I seen dramastic results then after a few weekly water changes I was algea free. There are several algicides available. In using an algicide, if you have live plants in the tank it will also affect them. The free floating algae in the tank will attach itself when it seeds. As far as the Pleco, feed him algae wafers. There is another process but it's much more expensive and that's adding a UV sterilizer to your filtration system. One thing I wonder about is your daytime temperature in the tank. If it's that close to the window I would expect the sun's rays to be amplified by the window and then amplified by the glass on the tank. IP: Logged |

I used AlgeaFix once on my guppies. I used to have 60 of them, but it killed off so many that I only have 15 now. DO NOT USE ALGEAFIX!!! IP: Logged |

HOPEFULLY YOU READ THIS BEFORE USING ANY ALGEA MEDS. IN TO MANY CASES THAT I;VE HEARD ALGEA MEDS ARE VERY BAD. I ONCE HAD THIS PROBLEM. FIRST THING, IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO MOVE YOUR TANK, KEEP THE BLINDS CLOSED DURING THE DAY. YOU HAVE TO DO ONE OR THE OTHER OR YOU WILL NEVER GET RID OF THE PROBLEM. (ANYTHING WORTH DOING, TAKES TIME TO DO RIGHT!) IP: Logged |
