Does anybody know about the care of a butterfly loach? I have purchased them from a LFS under the name "butterfly plecostomus" and since that was the name I thought they were a plecostomus. Both of them that I had would live about two weeks and then die overnight. I gave them algae tablets just like a regular pleco, should I be feeding them something different? Also, I've never seen one off the wall of the tank, is it possible that they can't unstick? I have a 20 gallon tank with a mean gourami and several tetras. Thank you for any help! IP: Logged |

Hi tina1, butterfly pleco's don't get very large, only about 2". The behavour of your butterfly is typical. They can unstick they just don't. Most likely your problem was the gourami picking on him. Butterfly's really need a tank with a little algae development. They are delicate with regard to being picked on by other fish. A tetra tank is a good place for them. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |
