I'm having a hard time determining whether an oscar can live with a "freshwater" snowflake eel. From what I've read (and it's all been fairly contradictory), freshwater snowflake eels have to live in a brackish environment. There seems to be some disagreement as to whether oscars can live in a brackish environment as well. If they can, I haven't found any sites that describe directions to acclimate the oscar to this environment. Has anyone tried this or know if its even possible? IP: Logged |

Oscars do have a very wide range of ph and hardiness that they can tolerate. That does not means they wil thrive though. IP: Logged |

Information I got years ago which is probably outdated by now is that most freshwater fish can be made to live in brackish water when done gradually of a long time period. By doing this you cut down their lifespan almost in half. Once they have been introduced into brackish water they cannot go back to freshwater. Also when introduced to brackish water it must be maintained very stable with regard to salinity. Again this is very old information, and you might want to check more recent studies. PS. I wouldn't expect Oscars to be very compatible with a Snowflake. Given Oscars voracious apatites I would think they would look at a Snowflake as a large tasty worm.
