hi everyone, I really need some advice about my male Betta. I have read that that will only show aggressive behaviour towards another male of the same species, however, my Betta is making my poor Paradise fish's life pure hell. I've watched them for ages over the last few days and have noted that Mr Betta has made it clear to poor little paradise that he is NOT allowed to move away from the filter at any time, or he will basically go completely sick on him. He puffs up and backs up to the paradise, then swiftly turns around and has a nip at it!!! What the hell Can I do about this? I introduced these fish at the same time about a week ago, and until then, they had been sharing a tank at the pet store with no probs. This is a problem, because I didn't get the tank for stress, I got it because it's so beautiful and peaceful, and it makes all of us feel really good. at the moment I just about have a heart attack every time that Betta arks up! Please help. IP: Logged |

If this action is not leading to injuries that you can see try adding a home/hidding place to the tank and give a little more time. If it's serious and the fish is suffering damage you need to seperate them or loose a fish. If another tank is out of the question you could always buy one of those tank dividers. I know someone who made one out of a piece of plexiglass with small holes drilled in it fot water to circulate. ------------------ IP: Logged |

If adding more hiding spaces doesn't work try pulling the Betta out in a jar for a few weeks and then reintroduce the Betta into the tank. Hopefully he will have forgotten the Paradise by then, and the Paradise will be the fish of dominance. IP: Logged |

First, stop using that language. Second, take the male betta out and put him in his own bowl, or mayb do that w/ te paradise. THey say bettas are'nt happy in the bowls and that they need a filter and heater, well, they don't. Make sure his bowl is @ least a gallon though, they don't like much smaller! IP: Logged |

thankyou to everyone else for THEIR reply!! I will try all the things you suggested. As for you tutti frutti. What language? and who do you think YOU are to tell me how to speak? get a life mate. I dont know where you come from, but where I come from, that IS my language, and I'm rather insulted that you find it so offensive. IP: Logged |

betta's actually do better in bowls sumtimes. in there, they can get their delicate fins ripped up from the current. also, bettas are often born in puddles in thailand after a rainstorm and live healthily, so a bowl wont be much difference. some bettas are strong ebough tho, where a current wont bother/harm them. I have heard of people speaking of fins ripped off due to a strong current on other sites but I have to put my two cents in. I have never kept any fish in a bowl. I have had two betas the second still living with all of his fins. Both have had strong current from filter. The later even "plays in it" when I do water changes. This leads me to believe that there are other conditions which are leading to weak fins in which this happens. Why is it you only get a penny for your thoughts but your always putting your two cents in? where's the other penny going? ------------------ IP: Logged |
