Hi people,
ok, I walk Floob 3 times a day, half hour morning and night and then a long walk (around 2 hours) at some point during the afternoon where he's off his lead chasing balls or rumaging.
Thing is, the rest of the time is spent indoors as I don't have a garden.
I play with him ALOT, where he'll probably only have an hour's sleep maybe twice a day if that.

I've made up silly games to play but I've ran out of ideas... help!

Any ideas would be appreciated, I don't care about mess or noise. He's intelligent so grasps the idea pretty quickly, but gets bored quickly too.

Anyone think of anything?...

Thanks

hello i have a 5 month old puppy and i have the same problem. I take her for a walk every 3 hours throw her frisbe till all she wants to do is lie there. But it dosnt seem to do much of anything 15 monutes later, cause she is up jumping around and going nuts. Ive found that peanut butter in a hollow toy or just sticking a bit of food in a box or something keeps them busy. also develops their intelagence by trying to figure out how to get it out. You can always try to teach your dog new tricks to pass some time away. I found with my dog that if i just let her up on the bed to snuggle with me she is the most content. makes her feel at the top of the world sort of thing.
well i dont know if this helped you out any
natasha and moka the dog

Hi, Thanks
I do give him a Kong but only when I leave him alone so he kinda enjoys it.
Maybe I'll buy a differnt kind for playtime when I'm around tho, Jamiya posted about treat dispenser type things once, forgot all about doing that...
Good luck with yours and Thanks again

They say that mental exercise tires them out more than physical. Try training some tricks! Also, I have heard hide-n-seek is fun. You can be the hidden thing, or you can use treats. Hide treats in places that are progressively harder for him to find - like under things, etc.

I'm not sure if you meant these games for when you are not home or for anytime, but here are a few things I do.

At home depot you can buy these plastic tubes with slits in the rubber ends, the center of the tube is clear the ends are brightly colored. You squeeze the end to open the slit, they are used for storing small items like nails or screws, bits, that type of thing. I put really good smelling treats in these and then hide them, the dogs get to sniff them out and find them. I only do this when I am home, they bring it back to me and I open the end dispensing the treat. If you weren't home they would just chew up the tube. You start out making it easy to find, and progressively make it harder, if the treat is a high value tasty treat they will spend a good deal of time trying to find it, and it requires them to think...mental excersise is important too.

This one is messy, but fun..fill a bucket with water and toss treats that float in. I use hot dogs and apples. "bob for treats", they love it in the summer. I also use ice cubes that I put a dash of food coloring in, so the contrast makes it easier to see.

Kongs are great! Endless ways of stuffing them.

Videos of exciting things and noises, like cats, birds or nature shows.

Teaching your dog tricks also is a great way to keep them busy, my dogs love to learn new tricks, they get excited I say "trick time!".

Make friends with another dog owner, and arrange playdates. I have a friend with a dog that mine gets along with, we trade off picking up each others dogs. She will come get my dog one day a week, she takes him to her house and they play for a couple hours, then she brings him back. I do the same the next week for her dog. My dog whines and carry's on when he hears her car pull up...he LOVES playdates!

Thanks

Today was the first time I've tried the hide-n-seek thing. I started with his favourite ball and one container, making him 'sit - wait' whilst I 'hid' it under the container. Got upto 4 containers and hiding treats too but still making him 'find his ball'. He loved it which is what prompted me to ask if anyone else had anymore ideas.

I'll deffenitly build on it and we'll be playing it again tomorrow. It's hard to remember to do things in stages sometimes when you just want them to be able to do the final stage kinda thing.

Wow Maisy, that water thing is right up his street, he's a real water hound. Had to laugh at "hot dogs" tho, and yeah, I meant when I'm home with him.

I do take him to play with my brothers dog once a week, we either stay at his or we walk by the river. He's got a springer so they're pretty well suited in what they like to do... which is bounce and break things lol.

Thanks.

*editted as I've just realised I use too many smilys*
