I just got a puppy a week ago,, The lady at the pet shop told me it is a pure bred Min Pin. I have resurched this breed on the internet and never seen one with white on it. my puppy has whit feet and white chest. the rest is red. the owner told me this is a rare color an reasured me it was a purbred. so i bought her she is only 8 weeks old.. so my question is is it possible this is a mix breed or is it really a rare color.. anyone who wants to see pics of her may email me. im going to keep the puppy any way regarless of its breed, i just want to know if i paid way to much for this puppy. and i also want to let her have puppies once befor i get her spaded.. If anyone can help thank you IP: Logged |

If your dog is a purebred then the white markings are miss-marks. Which means they would be a diqualification in the essentials of the breed. It would be wise not to pass this trait on as min pin breeders are trying very hard to upgrade the breed, not down grade it. IP: Logged |

Hi! unfortunantly buying a dog from a pet store isn't a good thing to do, you don't know if this poor puppy was from a puppy mill or not. I don't know anything about mini pinchers, but you can research the breed on the net or find a reputable breeder in your area and ask them. Once you have fallen in love with your pet, you can't let go! and shouldn't. I only hope that for your sake he doesn't have health problems in the future. Have you taken him to see the vet yet? that would be the best thing you could do for him to insure that he's healthy. Good luck and congradulations on the new member of the house. Sincerely, Susan Post your pics here! we would love to see them. P.S. I'm sure you'll get more advise here also.... IP: Logged |

Hello cdg, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new puppy. I'll post a link below to the American Kennel Club's web site, it will go directly to the page for Miniature Pinschers. Scroll down to read the breed standard and information on color. That should answer your question. As far as paying too much...well, I would never buy a pup from a pet store, but having said that..you already did and whats done is done, love her for what she is, enjoy her and learn about her. Pups in pet stores generally come from puppy mills ( a very bad thing), back yard breeders or other people who do not represent their breed very well. (my opinion of course)They are not meant for breeding...the fact that they are in the pet store in the first place probably means that it is a "pet quality" dog and would not produce off spring that would better the breed. Pet stores and others selling puppies with money making as a goal often use the word "rare" to describe a color or coat pattern or other feature to make a sale. What did you name her?

Your pup could very well be purebred...just came from poor breeding. Depends on your definition of poor breeding I guess...I'm not going to make assumptions on where it came from..but the person breeding was breeding pet quality animals and probably wasnt trying to stick with the breed standards. I think its entirely possible your dog is purebred but does it really matter since its just a pet? You wont find a show quality pet at a pet store anyways so chances are your dog will be just like a min pin (which is what you wanted) but just look slightly different. Sometimes pet stores are the only option for people so lets not criticize her decision. I know people who have been forced to go to pet stores for dogs because of the outrageous costs of certain kinds of dogs from the so called reputable breeders. This isnt always the case. Often pet stores have the outrageous prices. Anyways...point is...the dog probably is purebred...or pretty close to it. And people get ripped off all the time....so maybe you did pay a little more for a dog that mgiht have had a little rat terrier in its heritage...hopefully the dog will be perfect for you and when you realize that...its only then that money is no longer an issue. Good luck to you and your pup =) IP: Logged |

Please understand...I was not critisizing for purchasing the dog at a pet store...I said I would not get a dog from a pet store. There are always breed rescues and local shelters or humane societies, they often get purebred dogs in. IP: Logged |

Hi again Cdg, if I in any way offended you, I'm sorry! I realize that not everyone knows about pet stores, and I'm sure that some are o.k. I just haven't heard of any. The main thing is that you love and nurture your new puppy, as I'm sure you will. Susan IP: Logged |
