I am nearing the Vet's appointment for my pup's big day-getting fixed. However, Im unsure if I want to go through with it. I think he's starting early anyway b/c he's been leg humping and lifting his leg to mark his territory on my furniture | So, what will the surgery change? Will he stop the leg humping and territory marking? Please advise. Thanks!

Since you asked...YES! please have him neutered. It's important for his health and it will mean he won't have strong urges to get loose and find females. In the last year almost every wandering dog I have found and had to find it's owner for was an unaltered male. Nuetering him will take away that testosterone driven need to mark everything in sight as his and he will be less distracted. All three of my males are neutered, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am not a breeder and there is no need to have them unaltered.
While he is going to be out for the neutering, it's a good time to go ahead and have him microchipped too. They slip a little tiny microchip under the skin on his neck, it has a number assigned to it and if he gets lost they can scan his chip, get the number and find out where he belongs. All my dogs are chipped as well, it's WAY worth it.

HI, Having your dog neutered now before the habit of marking territory becomes a problem as most dogs once they start doing it including humping this will still continue after surgery so its better in the long run to get it done now.

Un-neutered males can also become agressive if they get the urge to mate with some one or something and you try and stop him.

YES- definately Neuter. Every responsible pet owner, unless an experienced and qualified breeder, should neuter/spay their dogs and cats.

Yes! Yes! Yes! then someone like me, who has a mini dauchshund (that was due to be fixed the next week) won't have a pomeranian sneeking into her back yard, and getting her pregnant. Then going trough the pregnancy, and birthing, and then the saddness of giving them up. Long story to say "Yes"

One trip thru the local Humane Society should be enough to convince any animal lover to spay/nueter as soon as possible.

From the game show "The Price Is Right". At the end of every show Bob Barker reminds everyone to spay & nueter thier pets.

No offense, Doglover_pekeapoo, but your response is one made out of ignorance. Do you realize how many thousands of unwanted dogs/cats are euthanized in animal shelters every year? Do you realize how many are wandering the streets, hungry, sick and unloved? I used to volunteer at our local Humane Society, so I have seen it all. Since you believe that altering pets is like "fixing you", I have to wonder.....just how many unwanted puppies have your dog(s) brought into this world? Think about it....

I agree with you candyapplekc i think all animals should be spayed or nuetered unless they are used for breeding from a great bloodline. I breed german shepehrds and i am having them all fixed i am retiring from breeding and let my dogs retire aswell so they can live the rest of there lives without having to look after puppies.

Doglover_Pekeapoo, are you kidding me? Why don't you ask the millions of dogs in puppy mills that are forced to have puppies over and over how much they like not being fixed? Or ask all the unwanted animals living lonely lives in shelters how glad they are that they are alive as a result of ignorance and irresponsiblity on the part of people that don't fix their pets? "It's like fixing you?" Give me a break. And anyways, people get "fixed" all the time so that they can't have any more children.

LOL! Exactly what I was going to say, puggleowner!

Doglover_pekeapoo, was that message meant to be a troll? It almost has to be. Dogs can't choose to use birth control, so we must choose for them. Besides the issue of unwanted puppies (which is the MAJOR reason) it is also safer and healthier for the animals to be altered, and I believe they are happier as well. Ever see what hormones do to a human teenager?!

And yes, my husband is "fixed". He couldn't wait to go in and guarantee there would be no more children after our youngest was born.
