Hi. I have a 3 year told Golden Retriever, love of my life. She's quite a bit overweight and diet foods and daily walks just aren't doing it for her. I saw a television show about obstacle courses that dogs go through and I'm wondering if anyone has any information on it. I know my dog would love it. Thanks! IP: Logged |

You are probably talking about agility training. Here is a web site to give you a little information about it: http://www.adsc-agility.com/news.html

There are books you can get that will show you the basics of training and how to make some agility equipment on a budget. I highly recommend finding a class and enrolling in it as well. The book I have is "Intoduction to Dog Agility" by Margaret Bonham. I just started formal classes with my dog and it's a blast! She loves it and it's good exercise for you as well.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've looked around the internet and in the phone book and I'm going to sign my dog up for a beginners class. Thanks again! IP: Logged |

fishy chick, you might want to look into the food you are feeding and why your golden is not losiing weight. Jake my lab had the same problem for years, he was on various diet foods that were mostly corn and carbs and less protein and actually kept gaining weight. I switched him to a higher protein diet that had little fillers of carbs. It wasnt a diet food so I adjusted accordingly on the calories he should be eating. He lost 5# in 6 months. I joke he is on the Atkins diet and it worked well for him. Honeybear IP: Logged |

I would also be careful in agility, depending on how overweight she is. You might want to speak to your vet and see if she should be limited as far as jumping goes.
