Our 7 month old puppy occasionally has this really bad fishy odor coming from him. He is very clean, but the smell keeps coming back!I think he might leak a lil bit out of his butt or something, its really gross. I don't know if it's normal or if he could be sick. Anyone know the problem?

Could be a number of things- and I would take him to the vet. What kind of food is he on? Are you giving treats, or table scraps? What kind of bones does he chew and/or eat? Is the odor from his rear end, not his mouth? His anal glands could also be impacted- is he licking his bottom a lot? How are his stools? There are a number of things to try if it not medically related. Switching foods, would be one. Talk to your vet and get some answers and suggestions.

My golden retriever use to have that problem alot. I referred to my dog book for an answer and found one.
Your dog might have blocked anal glands. It can be painful or, at least, uncomfortable for the dog. This can also cause the smell you were talking about. You can try what's called "expressing the anal glands". Trust me, not the most pleasant job in the world.

Definately sounds like an anal gland problem. My Aussie x was having some horrible problems with hers and the smell was unbearable. The vet had to express them once and to prevent further problems I tried switching foods in hopes that it would help....finally, I found one that helped and she has not had any problems in over 9 months. Adding fiber or switching foods can help some dogs but for others it may not and the glands may have to be manually expressed every so often.

Thanks to everyone that replied. It was definitly the anal gland problem, we fixed the problem...for now at least =) THANKS AGAIN ~ nicole
