I was just curious how many times a day you feed your dog. I feed 3x a day. At 8am, 12pm, and between 5-6pm. I dont feed alot I feed the recommended about, I just slit it up through out the feedings. My vet recommends that I feed 3x a day, which is good to know. What do you guys do?

I feed twice a day, my lab because of his weight problem gets 2C in the morning and 1 C at night, my mix also gets fed twice a day, 3/4C both morning and night. I know people who only feed their dogs once a day, but I personally dont think this is right. I would like to hear the reasoning behind this.

I used to free feed, but my Poodle has to have different food than my other two, and he absolutely cannot get into the other dogs food, so I now feed twice a day...sort of. I leave one empty bowl down...Witt will bring me the bowl if he is hungry, and if he does I put my Poodle in his kennel for a bit and leave food out for the other two. Dooley will come get me and show me the bowl if he is hungry. They are usually content with the two feedings a day, but neither have weight problems and Witt is still a pup, so if they want more they get it. Neither of them are food hogs either, they eat only what they need. I also agree with smaller more frequent meals throughout the day, I think it is better for them if you can manage doing it in your day.

I love it. "Witt brings me his bowl, when he is hungry" and "dooley will come get me and show me his bowl" Luckily my Jake isnt that smart or he would be bringing me his bowl all day.

I free feed mine. They like to graze and when i feed three times a day they wouldent eat and then be hungry later. None of mine have weight problems so it works for us, but previous dogs i have had would constantly eat. I think it depends mostly on the dog.

I feed mine twice daily. I give a treat(doggie cookie mid afternoon). Vet says my two are perfect in weight and sasha can not afford to gain weight with arthrtis. I sometimes give her extra veggies as a snack but she always gets veggies with both meals also. They have come to expect their mid afternoon treat too. Both looking at me with expectation. But for you Angel is still under a year old. Aren't dogs under a year old supposed to eat more than twice a day.

I free feed both of my Poodles. They look great and don't have a weight problem. They just like to graze whenever they want. It makes it nice and I don't have to remember to feed them at certain times. They let me know when the bowl is empty too.

LOL honeybear...they do many things like that, they are both clowns. I suppose right now they aren't so hungry because they are stealing me blind in the garden! They eat the tomatos, even the green ones, right off the vine. I put my strawberries up this year in hanging baskets, now they just sit under them and beg. Witt drug a huge squash in the house ..half eaten! They think it's a bloody buffet out there.

I couldnt ever free feed my pup. She is such a pig she will eat till she is sick. I feed her Royal Canine and the servings I'm suppose to feed her a day is a little over a half a cup. I thought that was not enough, but her weight is fine and her coat looks great. She is 10lbs and her energy level is normal. I guess since its better quality food you suppose to feed less.

I was wondering this myself! I feed Max twice a day but read on the Nutro Package that is best to do three times daily for a puppy. When I spoke to my vet about it she didn't make any comment when I told her I was feeding him twice a day so I'm hoping that this is ok.

I think that if you have a very active dog and are feeding it twice a day and its still got too much ribs showing give a little more in the morning and evening. The bags labels are just lumping all dogs into one catagorie, you adjust it to what you think, if you think he/she needs more/less you do it. If dog is gaining weight lessen amount.

Nessa: My poodle eats about 1/4 cup total kibble per day plus veggies. She does not think 1/4 is enough but if I give her more she will gain weight. Thats why I will let her eat as much veggies as she wants.

What kind of veggies can I give Angel? She loves brocolli but I heard that its bad for dogs. I would love to add veggies but dont know which kind and if its a good thing to do since she is still a pup.

It is my understanding that premium foods are carefully balanced and feeding anything else as a supplement will upset the nutritional balance and therefore not be good for the dog.

I am feeding my puppy three times a day and will cut back to two times when the vet thinks she is ready. The vet told me to give her as much as she can eat in 10-20 minutes and then pick up her food. Sometimes she eats a bunch and sometimes she doesn't. I also use her regular food kibbles for training treats, so she does get some food in between meals.

I can't leave the food out all the time anyway, because I am sure the cats would eat it and dog food is not good for kitties.

Our vet says what I am feeding my poodle is great. She eats broccoli often (Loves it). The only veggie type of food that is harmful is onions. The lady down the street from me also owns a mini poodle and she also feed lots of veggies. Her vet also approves. Nessa: carrots, celery, green beans, cauliflower, are great for them. You can also buy frozen for when you are in a pinch and run out. Mine also like bean sprouts and lettuce too. It is all very healthy stuff.
