recently I have had two neighour male dogs, a 12 yr black lab and a 4 yr old golden retriever go after our 14 yr old male shep/cross. There has been a past with both dogs which I refer to as sorting out the dominant dog and territorial issues. Usually it is the hair up on the back for both dogs and a little bit of charging, a little sniffing and that's it. This week that is how it started with the black lab who had come down from his property and was on the sidewalk. I initially had my dog on the lead but took him off so they could sort it out, it started the same way as every other time in the last 5 years, but this time the black lab showed all of his teeth and turned around and bit my dog as he was walking past. The end result was a large puncture and a tear. My dog did nothing, he kept walking and didn't even yelp, if it wasn't for the large tuft of hair missing I wouldn't of thought the lab connected. The second incident happened 4 days later and I was walking my dog and had him on a lead when the golden retriever off of a lead came charging at us snarling and showing all of his teeth. Our dog did nothing, there was no attempt to react at all. Just before x-mas we almost lost our dog, he had a geriatric moment and has recoverd about 85%, I have been told that this is now the natural pecking order of the male dominant dog and these dogs are sensing the weakness and picking on our dog, where in the past our dog was stronger and higher up the ladder, so to speak. Has anyone come across this before. I am trying to explain this to the owners who both say that neither dog has ever shown any aggression and yet our dog has a nice wound. Frustrated and concerned.

Hi,

I can't stand people who don't have any respect for other people and their space. Are you not on public property? Does your city not have leash laws?

My neighbour has two large dogs...I have a dog that is dog aggressive, will never denie it, but I have it undercontrol as long as the other dop doesn't come too close for comfort. This guy wouldn't walk his dogs on leash nor would he have any respect for my situation even though I tried explaining to him nicley..he ended up threatening me....so long story short...Police and the local SPCA were brought in...to help him understand his dogs are to be kept in his yard or leashed while out in public.......this guy now lives in a different place.....and I can walk my dog without worry

Best bet is to go to the vet, record all icidents with the local shelter SCPA or whatever animal organization is in your area...and have them deal with the idiots.

Good luck....stand up for yourself and don't let other people tell you, your in the wrong when you've done everything right

Gosh this makes me mad. You and your dog are minding your own business and these two are running wild. Take your dog to the vet, have him document all the injurys, take pictures. Is there anyone else that saw this happen? If so, you can take them to court if they don't pay their share. Or why not talk to other people that walk their dogs down that street. If you are not willing to do anything about it. Please walk another route. Its not fair to subject your poor sweet dog to such visciousness. Those dogs could be taken away if they are not carefull. Dominate dogs do tend to go after the weaker or omega dogs. Sometimes they will just do the scare tactics and if the dog does not react then they feel as if they have won. Either do something or take your sweet dog into a safer street for a walk. My dog was attacked by a monster alaskan malamute 11 mon. old pup. He was huge. My dog did not even see it coming. The owners of that dog paid. Make them pay. Their dogs could easily hurt a small child. Think about. Please.
