hi. we just got a 6 week old puppy and we've had great luck in the past with our 2 sheltie's crate training them. So, we decided to do it with our new pup. (he's a lab / blue healer mix.) However, he whines, and whines and whines when we put him in there. We are getting no sleep. Unless we put him with us in our room, but then during the night, he pee's and poop's while we are sleeping and unable to catch him. Will the whinning and whimpering stop? I am guessing he's missing his mommy and liter mates. i think 6 weeks is too young. My first two were 3 months when we got them. we were thinking of putting the crate in the basement. farther away from the bedrooms to where we can't hear him and just let him whine away til he wears out. any idea's would be helpful thank you, sheri IP: Logged |

I've found success with putting the crate in the same room that you're going to be in and covering it with a sheet. IP: Logged |

Smiles, he is only 6 weeks old, he will stop the whining. My husband had the hardest time with this. We put the crate in our bedroom with us, he would talk to the puppy and try to reassure him. This seemed to make the puppy cry more. Finally I convinced my husband to shush and the puppy would fall asleep in about 15 minutes. We now have a 12 week old Catahoula puppy and this time my husband was quiet from the start and it went much quicker. Congrats on your new baby. IP: Logged |
